Marine Diesel Technician

We have an immediate need for a qualified stand-alone Marine Diesel Technician in Mobile Alabama. Interested individuals should be competent in all diesel engine brands and have the ability to trouble shoot engine problems and perform repairs on customer time frame. Installs, maintains, and repairs ship’s propulsion systems; including, but not limited to, EMD, Caterpillar, John Deere, and Cummins diesel engines.

Competent in troubleshooting engine problems on above makes of diesel engines such as low power, engine vibrations, fuel, and electrical systems.

Disassemble, fault find, repair, and reassemble shipboard equipment as directed by the supervisor.

Installs, repairs, and maintains ship’s main bearings, gear train assemblies, cylinder packs, cylinder heads and turbo chargers.

Capable of performing major in frame overhauls in a time frame consistent with customer expectations.

Capable in rigging to lift engines for service work.

Tests equipment to ensure the system meets specifications.

Willingness to work independently, part of a team or lead a team to accomplish tasks.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

Must have 5 years of recent experience working in a shipyard as Diesel Technician.

Must be able to pass all administered tests prior to being hired for the position.

Demonstrated working knowledge of troubleshooting diesel engines and procedures for disassembly and reassembly of engines.

Demonstrated ability to safely operate all working and non-working machinery.

Must have the ability to read and comprehend diagrams.

Must possess a good general knowledge of ship repair procedures and test requirements.

Must be able to comprehend instructions, drawings, and general correspondence.

Must have a working knowledge of ship repair terminology.

Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE may include hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.

Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident.
