About the role

Dentons has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join our highly regarded Australian Intellectual Property and Technology practice, on a full time, permanent basis.

We represent national and international clients on a complex and interesting range of matters spanning a wide range of industries and technologies. Our work includes trade mark and patent prosecution and portfolio management, copyright and designs, domain names, IP litigation and dispute resolution, IP commercialisation and licensing, information technology, supply and distribution, franchising, procurement, privacy, consumer protection and regulatory compliance.

Key responsibilities

Assist with managing trade mark portfolios for clients, including coordinating filings, registrations, and maintenance of trade marks both nationally and internationally

Conduct trade mark searches and assist in the clearance process to assess availability and registrability of trade marks

Entering and maintaining data on our IP management platform

Assisting to manage the Australian and global trade mark portfolios of our clients

Maintaining client contact information, organising meetings, equipment and managing replies

Editing, drafting and preparing correspondence, documents and presentations

Proactively managing team’s finance requirements including opening matters and conflict checking, trust requirements, accounts payable, audit letters, high volume billing and closing files

Working with the team to identify areas for process improvements and implementing process changes

Managing all general administrative requirements including telephones, electronic and hard copy filing, printing, mail etc.

About you

You have the following qualities, knowledge and capabilities:

A background in legal administrative support or administration in professional services and seeking a career in legal support

An energetic, enthusiastic, team player committed to providing a high level of service to our internal team and our clients

Organised and efficient and enjoys working in a fast paced, deadline driven environment

Knowledge of Elite or other finance related software to manage expenses, matters, timesheets, client billing and reporting requirements

Knowledge of Outlook to organise and manage contacts, mail and calendars

A good grasp of technology to produce high quality documentation and awareness of other programs to help ensure the right technology is being used to produce the best result

Strong interpersonal skills

A proactive and flexible attitude.
