Controls Engineering Manager – Renewable Natural Gas

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineering Manager to lead the design, integration, and execution of industrial control systems for biogas utilization projects. This is a strategic leadership role offering excellent career growth, with responsibility for managing the controls engineering team and ensuring the successful delivery of automation solutions that optimize system performance and reliability.
The ideal candidate has 8+ years of experience in controls engineering, with a strong background in process automation, PLC/SCADA programming, and team leadership. This role requires both technical depth and people management skills to drive project execution, mentor engineering staff, and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and lead the controls engineering team, providing mentorship, training, and technical direction.
Oversee the design and integration of industrial control systems, including PLC programming, SCADA development, and automation strategy.
Develop and review technical documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, control narratives, I/O lists, and UL panel drawings.
Specify control instrumentation and automation components for project needs.
Lead field commissioning efforts, troubleshoot complex control systems, and support system optimization.
Participate in HAZOP reviews, risk assessments, and respond to contractor RFIs.
Collaborate cross-functionally with project management, mechanical and process engineering, and operations teams.
Ensure projects comply with relevant industry standards, including ISA, NFPA, and UL.
Minimum Qualifications:
8+ years of experience in control systems engineering in Oil & Gas, RNG, Biogas, Wastewater, Gas Processing, Chemical, Power, or Industrial Automation.
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Controls Engineering, or a related technical field.
Advanced knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Studio 5000, Rockwell, GE, Automation Direct) and SCADA systems.
Proficiency with industrial instrumentation and communication protocols (Modbus, HART, etc.).
Proven leadership experience managing technical teams and delivering results.
Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel up to 25% for commissioning and site visits.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in gas analysis systems, UL panel design, and process control optimization.
Familiarity with maintenance planning and root cause analysis methodologies.
Professional certifications such as E.I.T., PMP, or equivalent.
Knowledge of performance metrics, KPI development, and reporting systems.
