Seeking a talented Process Safety Manager to join a team and supporting manufacturing operations and maintaining compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations and best practices.
This role is responsible for overseeing the PSM program, ensuring compliance with local and federal regulations, and setting up key safety metrics. The PSM Manager will collaborate closely with plant management and the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) department to ensure proper documentation, training, and implementation of safety protocols while ensuring compliance with the 14 elements of PSM.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct audits and oversight to maintain PSM and Risk Management Program (RMP) documentation
Assist with Management of Change (MOC) processes and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
Work with operations teams to address and correct non-compliance issues from audits
Provide training and guidance to personnel on PSM compliance
Recommend and implement improvements to enhance safety and regulatory compliance
Stay updated on evolving PSM and RMP regulations
Establish and track Process Safety metrics
Train plant PHA leaders and review PHA results for quality and thoroughness
Support Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) for high-risk scenarios
Track and follow up on audit findings, ensuring timely resolution
Participate in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and ensure quality assessments
Assist EHS efforts in reviewing PSM requirements
Engage in incident investigations and root cause analysis
Communicate with regulatory agencies regarding PSM compliance
Provide reports and evaluations of safety programs to management
Offer technical support for regulatory compliance and risk mitigation
Occasional travel to other sites for meetings or training
Skills & Qualifications
5+ years of experience in chemical plant operations with a strong technical background
3+ years of experience in PSM implementation and facilitation
In-depth knowledge of OSHA, PSM, RMP, and EPA regulations
Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 and EPA 40 CFR Part 68 preferred
Strong safety and incident investigation experience
Data analysis and root cause analysis expertise preferred
Risk/consequence modeling experience is a plus
Experience managing contractors and technical resources beneficial
PHA Facilitator/Leader certification preferred
Strong leadership and team collaboration skills
Ability to influence operations and drive consensus across functions
Proficiency in conducting PHA studies using various methodologies
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Ability to handle confidential information professionally
Strategic thinking with risk identification and mitigation expertise
Innovative problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to balance safety and business needs in decision-making
Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and background check
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree required (Chemical Engineering or related field preferred)
