Job Overview:

Morgan Legal Group is seeking a Junior Associate Litigation Counsel with a strong interest in estate planning and probate litigation to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with senior attorneys on a variety of matters involving contested wills, trust disputes, fiduciary litigation, and guardianship proceedings. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your litigation experience in a highly specialized and growing area of the law.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about estate litigation. This role requires regular court appearances and interaction with clients navigating complex and often emotionally charged legal issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist senior attorneys in all phases of estate and probate litigation, including will contests, trust disputes, accounting proceedings, and guardianship matters.

Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, legal memoranda, and settlement agreements.

Conduct legal research related to Surrogate’s Court procedures, fiduciary duties, and estate law precedents.

Attend and participate in court hearings, status conferences, and trials in New York Surrogate’s and Supreme Courts.

Review and analyze estate planning documents, financial records, and discovery materials.

Communicate with clients, fiduciaries, experts, and opposing counsel with professionalism and empathy.

Assist with depositions, trial preparation, and the development of case strategies.

Contribute to mediation and settlement negotiations.

Keep up-to-date on changes in estate law and probate litigation practices.

Qualifications:

J.D. from an accredited law school.

Admitted to the New York State Bar.

1–3 years of litigation experience; prior exposure to estate, probate, or elder law is highly preferred.

Strong writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.

Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple probate litigation matters simultaneously.

Empathetic, client-focused approach to sensitive family and financial disputes.

Familiarity with New York Surrogate’s Court rules and procedures is a plus.

Must be able to appear in court.
