Our Operations Supervisor assists in the management, training, and coaching of warehouse employees to achieve production goals to help fund GCI’s (Goodwill of Central Iowa’s) mission of making purposeful employment possible for all. This position is responsible for managing the operational lifecycle and distribution of quality goods through inventory, delivery, and aftermarket salvage.
What you'll do here:
Assist in managing and engaging the team effectively through department processes to meet production goals within GCI’s values of love, kindness, and respect.
Trains, coaches, and develops warehouse operations employees using various platforms including in-person, online, and written methods to safely perform job duties.
Provides communication within the department through team meetings, one-on-one conversations, electronically, and by posting or distributing relevant written materials.
Coordinates loading and unloading of trailers and the organization or movement of gaylords and materials using established processes.
Coordinates warehouse and inventory management to optimize performance, quality, and meet production goals.
Monitors and signs off on truck order fulfillment.
Coordinates with third party vendors as assigned.
Oversees salvage loads and ensures maximum weights, product, and recordkeeping.
Collaborates with managers and employees to ensure the daily delivery and distribution of quality products, furniture, and high value items to retail stores.
Safely operates equipment such as pallet jack, forklift, baler, compactor, and two-wheel dolly as directed and authorized.
Ensures completion of required safety training, inspections, and reports.
Oversees proper cleaning of the warehouse, work areas, and equipment used.
Effectively uses technology such as Microsoft Office suite and Human Resources Information Systems to communicate, monitor, and track department metrics.
Regularly completes and submits reports, performs employee actions within the HRIS (human resources information system), monitors and updates timekeeping and payroll data for team members, monitors employee training progress in the LMS (learning management system) and assists employees in accessing their records and training within GCI systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What you’ll need:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or its equivalent, or a minimum of four (4) years of any of any combination of military service, high school, or related full-time paid employment.
Must have a minimum of one year of experience in a warehouse, trucking, or related industry.
Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Forklift-operator experience preferred. Ability to become GCI Forklift Certified within 2 months of hire.
Experience training others is a plus.
Must possess strong interpersonal skills and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and meet goals.
Ability to work both independently and with a team effectively and flexibly.
Must be able to perform basic math.
Ability to use a computer or electronic handheld device to enter or retrieve data.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and dependent adult and child abuse background check.
Must be able to carry, lift, push or pull fifty (50) pounds regularly.
Ability to tolerate variations in work environment temperature.
Ability to stand, walk, repetitively lift, grasp, push, pull, and bend for long periods of time.
