Responsibilities

Peraton is looking for a driven and customer-focused Subject Matter Expert (SME) Data Scientist to be part of a mission-driven team delivering advanced data science solutions to support national security and law enforcement efforts!

Every day, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) manages the complex flow of people, capital, and goods across air, land, sea, and cyberspace. To enhance efficiency and security, Peraton partners with the government to develop innovative solutions that promote lawful and safe movement. We are seeking a highly skilled Subject Matter Expert (SME) Data Scientist to lead the development and delivery of advanced predictive modeling solutions that directly support critical law enforcement missions.

What you will do:

Lead and conduct hands-on data and threat/intelligence analysis to develop predictive models and visual analytics solutions for government mission users.

Collaborate with mission stakeholders to define, scope, and address challenges where big data solutions can significantly impact project success.

Extract, clean, and transform large transactional datasets to build predictive models and generate supporting documentation.

Apply statistical and machine learning techniques to develop, evaluate, and deploy predictive analytical models that inform mission-critical decisions.

Leverage various statistical and modeling tools to assess and compare the performance of machine learning solutions.

Execute projects related to pattern recognition, anomaly detection, automated classification, entity resolution, and named entity recognition/matching.

Present technical designs, project management insights, and outcomes to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior government stakeholders, through reports and briefings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

BS/BA with 12 years of experience; MS/MA/MBA with 9 years of experience; PhD with 7 years of experience

Extensive experience working within the CBP environment

Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. CBP suitability clearance.

Expertise in developing machine learning models and advanced analytics solutions to address complex business challenges.

Proficiency in programming languages: R, Python, Scala, Java.

Strong experience with SQL programming and data extraction for exploratory data analysis (EDA) and model development.

Proficiency in statistical software packages such as SAS, SPSS Modeler, R, WEKA, or equivalent.

Technical and Practical Experience with the following:

Pattern recognition and data extraction

Automated classification and categorization

Entity resolution (e.g., record linking, named-entity matching, deduplication, disambiguation)

Supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques

Unsupervised Learning: Cluster Analysis (K-means, K-nearest Neighbor, Hierarchical, Deep Belief Networks, Principal Component Analysis)

Supervised Learning: Decision Trees, Support Vector Machines, Logistic Regression, Random/Rotation Forests, Neural Networks, Bayesian Networks

Data mining, analysis, and training set construction

Experience with visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, SAS Visual Analytics, D3, ggplot, Periscope, Business Objects).

Experience utilizing multiple big data technologies: Hadoop, Hive, HDFS, HBase, MapReduce, Spark, Kafka, Sqoop.

Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate

Tableau Desktop Specialist / Certified Data Analyst

Qlik Sense Business Analyst Certification

Google Data Analytics Professional Certificate

Certified Analytics Professional (CAP)

AWS Certified Data Analytics

Google Professional Data Engineer

Azure Enterprise Data Analyst Associate

SAS Certified BI Content Developer

DASCA Associate Big Data Analyst (ABDA)

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience integrating and deploying machine learning models for end-user applications.

PhD or Master’s Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).

Physical Requirements:

Stationary position approximately 50% of the time.

Target Salary Range

$176,000 - $282,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
