Job Title:Assistant Professor- Research Track - Division of Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases is actively recruiting an Assistant Professor (Research Track) with expertise in the area of M. tuberculosis and/or other pathogens of public health significance. A successful candidate is expected to have expertise in the field of tuberculosis (TB) as proven by their publication track record. Applicants with scientific background in epidemiology, as well as in the field of TB diagnostics will be preferable. Preferable applicants will need to have expertise in implementing and directing field studies in low and middle income countries (LMICs), and must be predisposed to travel to LMICs to oversee studies involving the phenotypic and genotypic diagnosis of drug susceptible (DS) and drug resistant (DR) TB, studies involving TB transmission, as well as participate in the implementation of studies involving the genotypic and serosurveillance of pathogens with pandemic potential (PPPs). Applicants must be qualified to work in a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) environment, and be accredited to work with drug-resistant M. tuberculosis strains, including multi- (MDR), pre-extensive- (XDR) and extensive- (XDR) drug-resistant clinical isolates. Applicants with experience as an Operations Manager of a center involved in research in infectious diseases and scientific exchange programs will be preferable. In this context, applicants with experience in establishing and maintaining lines of communications with government officials in LMICs (e.g. Ministry of Health officials) will be preferable.

Duties and Responsibilities
Applicants will be expected to assist the PI to cover their full salaries and fringe through federal and non-federal funding sources. Thus, applicants should be proficient in writing skills and assist the PI to submit grants/contracts and also submit their own grants seeking funding.
Applicants will be expected to assist the PI to run the daily operations of the lab, assisting the PI overseeing lab personnel (e.g., postdoctoral fellows, graduate and undergraduate students, research staff) and the research progress.
Applicants will be expected to assist the PI in the daily operations of the Center for Integrated Research in Infectious Diseases. In this context, applicants with experience as an Operations Manager of a center involved in research in infectious diseases and scientific exchange programs, as well as with experience in establishing and maintaining lines of communications with government officials in LMICs (e.g. Ministry of Health officials) will be preferable.
Applicants will be expected to be part of the mentoring program for M.D. and M.D./Ph.D., and Ph.D. fellows through the Center of Integrated Research in Infectious Diseases, the Division of Infectious Diseases, and the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine.
Applicants will be expected to participate in the events organized by the Center of Integrated Research in Infectious Diseases, by the Division of Infectious Diseases, and the Department of Internal Medicine, College of Medicine.

Applicants will participate in teaching activities related to the above mentorship program and other teaching activities related to the College of Medicine Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. Thus, experience in teaching undergraduate and graduate students is preferable.
Due to the necessity to travel overseas to visit different LMICs and interact with government officials as well as to establish collaborations with investigators, applicants being able to speak a variety of languages (e.g., English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, etc.) will be preferable. Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD with at least 5-year post-degree experience conducting research in infectious diseases. Preferable applicants will also have a Master in Public Health (MPH).
Applicant must have expertise in the field of TB epidemiology and diagnostics.
Applicants must have expertise and proven skills in implementing and directing field studies in LMICs.
Applicants must have experience in BSL-3 work and be able to work independently in this lab environment. Applicants with experience working with DS- and DR- M. tuberculosis strains will be preferable.
Applicants are expected to run their own research independently with minor supervision, and be proficient in generating peer-reviewed publications to advance and expand the lab research portfolio.
Applicants are expected to represent the lab in local, national and international scientific events (e.g., conferences/symposia) presenting their research findings. Department/Division Overview
The Division of Infectious Diseases is led by Division Director Susan L. Koletar, MD and is comprised of 26 faculty and 4 advanced practice providers. The Division is committed to providing comprehensive patient care, engaging in high quality research and offering innovative medical education to medical students, post-doctoral trainees and professional colleagues. Approximately 8,800 consults were seen last year for patients with a wide range of serious and life-threatening infections. The division has five consult services: 2 general ID services, transplant (solid organ), James, OSU East Hospital and an overflow service. Our two-year ACGME accredited Fellowship Program prepares trainees to be consultants in infectious diseases, with fundamental training for a career in academic infectious diseases. Division faculty also have leadership roles in Medical Center-supported programs such antimicrobial stewardship, clinical epidemiology, and OPAT. The Infectious Diseases Clinical Trials Unit, a National Institutes of Health-designated research site for the treatment of HIV and AIDS, and continuously funded since 1987, anchors a robust research program. Clinical and scholarly activities are enhanced through collaborations with a number of internal and external partners, including the Department of Microbial Infection and Immunity, College of Public Health, Columbus Public Health and Nationwide Children's Hospital.
