Overview

History and spectacular landscapes come together, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The region is also home to over 25 wineries, breweries and cideries.

This is the setting for Keswick Hall, an impressive 80-room luxury boutique hotel nestled on 600 acres which recently re-opened in 2021 after renovations. Home to the prestigious Keswick Golf Club, Marigold Restaurant, by Jean-Georges, a new luxury spa and sports and aquatics center.

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of owner units, common areas, and central systems.

The Chief Engineer ensures guest, owner, and staff satisfaction and safety by providing timely responses to maintenance work orders, overseeing preventative maintenance plans, and ensuring courteous interaction and follow-up with owners and guests. This Leader is responsible for maintaining individual residences, public areas, and colleague areas in good physical repair and maintaining an aesthetically pleasing quality.

The Chief Engineer will coordinate functions and activities with other department heads, guests, and owners as well as suppliers, contractors, and members of the local community as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hands-on daily management and supervision of the Maintenance Department including scheduling, hiring, training, and coaching of staff.

Overseeing engineering operations and expenditures.

Collaboration with the DOE in preparing the annual budgets.

Daily inspections of units under maintenance.

Participating in walk-through with management to ensure residences, public areas, and heart of house areas are well maintained and preventative maintenance processes are in place.

Presenting recommendations for property improvements to DOE.

Providing information to DOE to determine the need of utilizing outside contractors.

Overseeing all capital construction and major maintenance projects.

Obtaining certificates and permits and setting up a renewal monitoring program.

Training and monitoring safe practices of staff.

Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of three years experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferably in four or five-diamond hotel/condominium properties.

Knowledge of trade functions such as carpentry, cabinet making, furniture finishing upholstery, plumbing, pipe fitting, electricity, and masonry.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Functional and productive skills using technology such as personal computers, smartphones, and software including Microsoft Office.

Familiarity with hotel property management systems, purchase order and procurement systems, and the ability to learn new software and related applications including work order and productivity systems.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to work flexible shifts.

SUPERVISION

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering. However, a combination of experience and/or education will be taken into consideration.
