Job Description
The Applications Engineering department plays a crucial role in the success of Jewett Automation by providing technical expertise and support to customers, as well as by contributing to the development and improvement of products and services. We are seeking a skilled and solutions-focused Applications Engineer to support the integration of automation systems across a variety of industrial applications. In this role, you will work closely with customers, sales teams, and engineering staff to develop, implement, and support custom automation solutions—including robotics, PLC systems, HMIs, SCADA, and motion control. The Applications Engineer’s major function is to win profitable, low risk work for Jewett Automation while maintaining a long term, positive relationship with our external and internal customers.
Specific Duties
Provides technical solutions for various customer specific automation applications.
Develop & represent working mechanical and controls solutions in electronic format (AutoCad, SolidWorks, Visio).
Develop detailed labor and material cost estimates for the proposed automation solution.
Provides comprehensive and detailed written descriptions of the technical and commercial aspects of the proposed equipment.
Establish time & sequence charts of all motion-based assembly and test tasks.
Possess strong working knowledge of the assembly & test automation technologies in the medical device, electronic, automotive, consumer product, and health care industries.
Work cohesively with Sales Engineers and the Applications Department in the development and promotion of automation solutions.
Be available for periodic overnight travel (domestic and global).
Interface with design, manufacturing engineering, and production personnel to develop solutions and ensure implementation.
Support and lead in the seamless and complete transfer of technical and commercial information from Sales & Applications to Project Management and Engineering following the receipt of purchase orders.
Implement Jewett Automation values and business principles and promote Jewett Automation’s capabilities.
Support continuous improvement activities within the applications department.
Support engineering in assigned project related activities.

Abilities Required (training, education, certifications, methods of task implementation):
Minimum of Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology, and/or other degrees.
3+ years’ experience in automation, machining building, manufacturing, or robotics is preferred.
Proven experience in the machine-tool and industrial-automation markets.
Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.
Ability to task-switch effectively and to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining attention to detail.
Proficient in using software tools and applications, including Solidworks/ AutoCAD software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (including Power Point, Word, and Teams).
Ability to utilize basic computer tasks/functions (email, file directories, etc.).
Results driven, plan/prioritize, organized, agenda, and be action item focused.

Accurate and successful quoting and presentation activities that support completed sales, as well as required profit margins.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
Ability to work on a computer/laptop for a minimum of four hours at a time.
Ability to and availability to communicate via phone multiple times throughout the day.
Ability to travel up to a week at a time throughout the year.
