Job Description
Personal Support Specialist (PSS) provides hands-on assistance to people with disabilities and older adults in their daily lives. Their duties include:
Personal hygiene: Helping with bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care, and safe restroom use
Activities of daily living: Helping with meal preparation, feeding, and mobility
Instrumental activities of daily living: Helping with using the telephone, light housekeeping, and meal preparation and service
Other duties: Responding to call lights, performing scheduled activities, and documenting care
PSSs work in an assisted living environment as part of a clinical team. They provide care according to an authorized plan of care, which can vary depending on the client and the work setting.
Some qualifications for a PSS include:
Being at least 18 years old
Having a high school diploma or equivalent
Being able to read, write, and follow directions
Having a PSS certificate or agreeing to complete training and obtain a certificate within six months of hire Having a caring attitude and strong interpersonal skills
Part-time
