Position OverviewThe University Press of Kansas Business Intern will assist UPK's Business Department. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about scholarly publishing and get hands-on experience in a relaxed but professional work environment. For this competitive internship, applicants must be pursuing a degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, or a related field.Job Description50% - Manage accounts payable, including processing payments within the KU system
15% - Assist with author royalty processing
15% - Create/manage dashboards tracking key performance indicators
10% - Perform sales, cost, and customer analysis on an ad hoc basis
5% - Assist with project management for business and sales functions
5% - Conduct market research on various topics of interest to scholarly publishing such as pricing models and open access viabilityRequired Qualifications
Must be able to work a regular weekly schedule of 10 or more hours between 8am and 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office as demonstrated in application materials.Preferred Qualifications
Ability to interpret data, identify trends, and provide insights, as demonstrated in application materials
6 months or more work experience in financial analysis/accounting and/or 6 or more credit hours of related coursework.
A letter of recommendation from faculty.
Excellent written and verbal communication as demonstrated in application materials.
Strong attention to detail as demonstrated in application materials.
Fluency in Microsoft Excel as demonstrated in coursework and/or job history.
Familiarity with Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms as demonstrated in coursework and/or job history.Position RequirementsDuring the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).Employment Conditions(1) Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
(2) This is an hourly/non-exempt position.
