**Maintenance Trades Helper - San Diego, CA**

**Job Description:**

The Shipyard Maintenance Trades Helper will assist skilled tradespeople in the maintenance and repair of the USS Cape St. George (CG-71) under the Navy's Big Blue III contract. This role involves supporting various shipboard systems and ensuring the vessel remains operational and mission-ready.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Assist skilled mechanics, electricians, and other trades in the maintenance and repair of ship systems, including Hull, Mechanical, and Electrical (HM&E) systems.

+ Operate hand and power tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, drills, grinders, and saws under supervision.

+ Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance tasks on ship components like engines, turbines, and electrical systems.

+ Maintain a clean and organized work area.

+ Follow safety protocols and procedures at all times.

+ Transport tools and materials to various locations within the shipyard.

+ Support the installation of mechanical, electrical, and other systems and components, including wiring, piping, and structural elements.

+ Work in confined spaces and at heights as required.

+ Adhere to all Navy and shipyard regulations and standards.

+ Assist in the modernization and upgrade of HM&E systems to improve ship availability, reliability, and mission readiness.

+ Support the deployment of new technologies aimed at reducing maintenance and workload requirements for machinery systems and components.

+ Participate in the installation and maintenance of advanced radar, sonar, and weapon systems specific to the USS Cape St. George.

+ Help with the integration of electronic charting display and information systems.

+ Perform tasks related to environmental quality improvements aboard the ship.

**Essential Skills:**

+ Two years of shipboard experience in a similar position.

+ High school degree or a technical vocational high school degree.

**Work Environment:**

+ Work will be performed aboard the USS Cape St. George (CG-71) at Naval Base San Diego. The role requires working in confined spaces and at heights, adhering to strict Navy and shipyard standards and regulations.

**Job Type & Location:**

+ This is a Contract position based out of Chula Vista, California.

**Pay and Benefits**

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
