Schedule: Monday – Friday and the ability to work weekends with flexibility for varying hours as needed. Summer 2025 to Fall 2025
Compensation: $15.00/ hour
POSITION SUMMARY:
Morgantown is hiring a Visual Media Intern to work under the supervision of the Marketing Coordinator in the Communications Department. This internship will provide real-world experience for those who are looking to hone their craft by learning hands on. The Visual Media Intern will be expected to work with multiple forms of media and be a self-starter who works well on their own. They will be expected to learn and perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to those listed under Essential Duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES - KNOWLEDGE – SKILLS - ABILITIES:
Attend events on location capturing a variety of photos and videos that are visually appealing and tell a story. They will also be collecting photo/video for live posting to social media.
The candidate will be in-office when not attending events, working on logging footage, touching up photos and editing video footage and creating marketing materials using Photoshop InDesign and Canva.
Attend any general city related events or staged photo events that our department is unable to attend and collect photo/video material.
Assist with social media posts, graphic designing and website updating.
Must be competent with a PC running Windows OS and Adobe products or an equivalent program.
Must be willing to learn along with meeting goals and deadlines set forth during the duration of the internship
Must always present oneself in a professional and respectful manner
Collaborate directly with staff to assist in the filming and photography of the Ruby Summer Concert Series.
Take initiative to work independently on content development for promotional materials and social media.
Support the set-up and breakdown of filming and photography equipment during concert events.
Ensure high-quality visual content is captured during concerts, highlighting performances and audience engagement.
Contribute creative ideas for enhancing the concert series' visual storytelling and outreach efforts.
Film, create, and edit content for PSAs and other educational materials.
Assist staff in the setup and operation of audio-visual (AV) equipment for recording city meetings.
Learn to handle various AV technologies, including cameras, microphones, and recording/editing software.
Collaborate with team members to ensure high-quality recordings of meetings and events.
Gain hands-on experience in video production and post-production processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
Working indoors and outdoors with a chance of inclement weather.
Working in close proximity to others.
Partial work in environments with high noise levels.
Must be comfortable carrying equipment up to 20 pounds.
The position will frequently be required to sit, stand, kneel, walk, talk, and listen.
USE OF TECHNOLOGY & EQUIPMENT:
Equipment used on a regular basis includes a computer and various camera equipment.
Applicants should have a basic knowledge of camera functions to shoot both photos and video products.
Applicants should have a basic knowledge of design programs or be willing to learn to use various design programs such as Photoshop, InDesign and Canva.
Mobile device such as a mobile phone or tablet.
CONTACT & SUPERVISION:
Position will report to the Marketing Coordinator in the Communications Department
Position may have discussions with other departments for project knowledge gathering.
Position may have contact with the general public, dependent on project.

Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
Must be a current, graduating, or recently graduated student from a two-or-four-year college with a degree in Photography, Visual Journalism or a similar field
If a student working on an advanced degree, must not hold a current assistantship, fellowship, or similar commitment to their school
Certification/License:
Be 18 years of age and eligible to work in West Virginia • A valid driver’s license is required
Experience:
Less than one year of experience is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Applicants should be creative, innovative, and agile.
• Have a positive character, attitude, and desire to learn.
• Possess a working knowledge of photography, videography, Photoshop, InDesign and Canva.
• Familiarity with social media applications and best practices.
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment.
