Starting Monthly Salary:

With Class A or Class B License with Passenger Endorsement - $4,544.43/MONTH ($26.2179/HR)

With Class C License - $4,433.59/MONTH ($25.5784/HR)

Sign-On Bonus!

• $1,000 upon Operator certification (successful completion of training)

• $1,000 upon successful completion of the probation period

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, to safely operate passenger transit vehicles in accordance with assigned schedules on fixed route services; collect pre-established fares, tickets, and transfers; answer inquiries from the public concerning transit services; and perform related work as required.

Operates passenger transit vehicle on designated routes and schedules; assists passengers and gives related information to the public; stops at designated points to pick up and discharge passengers; collects cash fares, tickets, transfers, or issues transfers; conducts safety inspections of vehicles before and during operation; records a variety of passenger and other related data; reports mechanical problems; completes accident and incident reports as needed; may assist in bus dispatching; may assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

Possession of a Class A, B, or C California driver's license. Applicants with a California Class C driver's license must obtain their Class B CDL permit and endorsements within two weeks of training. A position requirement is obtaining (and maintaining) a California Commercial Driver's License with passenger and airbrake endorsements.

Training and Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain this background would be:

Work Background:

One (1) year of work experience in the operation of public transit vehicles, preferably including the operation of passenger buses.

Or

One (1) year of working with the public and providing customer service in any capacity.

Or

Completion of the Montebello Transportation Department Driver Training Program at the time of application, followed by one (1) year of work experience prior to appointment.

KNOWLEDGE: Operation and basic maintenance of a variety of buses, vans, and transit vehicles; Traffic laws, ordinances, rules, and driving courtesies related to public transit vehicles; Safe work practices.

ABILITIES:Operate a variety of public transit vehicles; Learn the geography and street layout of the service area; Read and write at the level required for successful job performance; Follow written and oral instructions; maintain clear and accurate records; Effectively represent the transit service with the public; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; and, Communicate effectively with the public.
