Ohio Department of Public Safety - Ohio State Highway Patrol

Complete advanced preventative maintenance, repair & installation of electrical wiring systems, fixtures & controls, plumbing systems, Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) & mechanical equipment & structural, security & life-safety systems & install, operate & maintain electronic equipment & sustainable/green building systems including direct digital control, air quality & lighting sensors, telecommunication/data, security & computerized building maintenance & automation systems:

Inspect, install, maintain & repair electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, & equipment (e.g., rooftop exhaust fans, fire & other alarm systems, lighting fixtures, ballasts, etc.);

Install, modify, & repair new & existing plumbing & perform routine maintenance for backflow prevention systems & specialized plumbing;

Perform minor repairs & routine preventative maintenance to HVAC & mechanical room equipment including rooftop units, dormitory systems, boilers, & circulation pumps (e.g., lubricate bearings, replace gaskets);

Perform rough & finished carpentry to construct, repair & install wood products (e.g., cabinets, counter tops, doors, shelves, bulletin boards, etc.);

Perform & inspect building maintenance repairs & alterations (e.g., build partitions, repair roofs, ceilings, stairs, & floors);

Fabricate, repair, & install door framing, casing, locks, & windows; Replace screen & window glass;

Perform routine maintenance of training facility swimming pool to include pump maintenance & filter replacement;

Prepare steam boiler for annual State Boiler Inspection;

Troubleshoot & repair snow removal equipment & sidewalk ice-melt systems;

Perform set-up & teardown of large stage used for Academy graduations;

Operate & maintain miscellaneous equipment, to include snow plow, grass cutting & groundskeeping machinery, forklift, etc.;

Install, re-key & program security devices, locks & electronic door-entry systems & cabinets;

Manage supply inventory & provide recommendations for improved efficiencies;

Operate personal computer to verify data &/or to produce &/or maintain electronic work records;

Meet with Academy personnel to identify maintenance issues, communicate maintenance & repair plans, & advise on strategies to prevent future breakdowns;

Perform other duties as assigned (e.g., clean shop & work area, oil & clean equipment, sharpen tools, move classroom &/or dormitory furniture, etc.).

Successful completion of post-secondary training in facilities maintenance technology, industrial trades technology or comparable training program;

AND 3 yrs. exp. in construction/building maintenance that included carpentry, electrical, plumbing & HVAC.

Note: if position will be assigned to operate motorized equipment of size & type regulated by Sections 4506.1, 4506.03 & 4506.12 of Ohio Revised Code, applicant must also have valid commercial driver license; if required to operate state vehicle must have valid driver license.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT REQUIRED TO REMAIN IN THE CLASSIFICATION AFTER EMPLOYMENT:

Completion of OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Certification Course. Renewal of appropriate driver license if required for assigned position.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works indoors & outdoors; exposed to dirt, dust, grease, sawdust, fumes, unpleasant weather, loud noises, hot & confined work areas & high voltage; may be exposed to burns, cuts, bruises & electrical shock; may work on scaffolding or extension ladder; may require overnight travel; may work varied hours, including overtime & responding to after-hours call back situations.

This position may be filled by a layoff or certification eligibility list.

This position will be filled in accordance with the bargaining unit agreement if applicable.

This position is essential, meaning the duties this job performs are critical to the continued operations of the Ohio Department of Public Safety during a public safety emergency (OAC 123\: 1-46-01 & DAS Directive HR-D-11). This position will be required to report for duty during any public safety emergency.

A BCI and FBI fingerprint check, a background check, including a polygraph examination, may be required on all selected applicants.

A comparative analysis and/or drug-test may be a requirement of the hiring process.
