Job Summary:
A Combination Pipe Welder secures components together using electric welding. Creates accurate welds that do not change the measurements of the element and will be able to withstand steam, hot water, gases, lubrications, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.
Overview of Primary Duties:
Lays out, aligns, and welds components that are fabricated, cast, and forged to assemble structural forms such as machinery frames, tanks, pressure vessels, furnace shells, buildings, and pipes, according to blueprints and metallurgy.
May be required to use Gas-Metal Arc, Flux-Cored Arc, Gas-Tungsten Arc, Submerged Arc, or Shielded Metal Arc welding processes.
Bolts, clamps, and welds together metal components of products such as piping systems, plates, pipe, and tube or structural shapes, using arc and arc gas welding equipment.
May remove excess weld, defective weld material, slag, and spatter, using carbon arc gouge, hand scrapper, grinder, or power chipper.
Connect cable from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse as specified by procedure or supervisor.
Manually guides electrode or gun along weld-line, maintaining length of arc and speed and movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through a portable welding gun.
Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
Starts power supply to produce an electric current.
Performs burning and effectively uses scarfing tip for clean-up, bevel parts,

Qualifications:
Five (5) + years of heavy industrial-related welding experience
Welding school associate degree or equivalent on-the-job training.
Previous years of experience in the field or a related area.
Being proficient in SMAW, GTAW, and GMAW welding processes.
Capable of certifying on multi-process pipe.
May require x-ray qualities.
Requirements:
· Must be able to read and follow a welding procedure.
Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
Ability to talk and hear to communicate
Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
