Job Summary:
A Structural Welder raises, places, and unites girders, columns, and other structural steel members to form completed structures or structure frameworks.
Overview of Primary Duties:
Reading and understanding technical drawings to perform welding and installation, involves cutting, repairing, and assembling of girders, beams, columns, and other building components to form complete structures.
Responsible for the design, layout, and fabrication of metal frameworks for commercial and industrial buildings.
Use power saws in cutting metal materials into desired shapes and sizes, also check angles and gap allowances using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Operate electric cranes and forklifts to transport workpieces and metal components.
Conduct periodic preventative maintenance such as lubricating moving parts to ensure efficient operations.
They employ their knowledge of metallurgy and geometry to determine the most suitable welding process or configuration for a project
Part of their responsibilities, structural welders read and interpret spool sheets, schematics, and other structural diagrams
Carry out post-welding activities such as grinding, cleaning, and polishing of workpieces.
Inspect and evaluate welds to ensure they are free of defects and conform to set specifications.
Apply welding processes such as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding), FCAW (Flux Core Arc Welding), and SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding)
Troubleshoot structures to identify and initiate repair of welding defects.
Set equipment to weld in vertical, horizontal, flat, or overhead positions.

Qualifications:
Four (4) + years of heavy industrial-related structural welding experience
Two (2) years of experience with successful completion of an accredited structural welding program.
Welding school associate degree or equivalent on-the-job training.
Proficiency in welding/cutting.
Be capable of using torqueing equipment such as pneumatic guns and hydraulic torqueing equipment.
Requirements:
· Must be able to read and follow a welding procedure.
Ability to read and interpret instructions and document, plan, and perform work activities independently
The degree of job responsibilities and requirements may vary depending on months of experience
Personal hand tools required for craft as established on the Yates Industrial Minimum Tool List
Successful completion of required Safety training to include, but not limited to, Confined Space, LOTO, and Working at Heights

Ability to hear bells, whistles, and alarms
Required to wear safety-approved body harnesses when working at 4’ or above
Required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting
Ability to talk and hear to communicate
Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools
Must be able to lift, carry, and move heavy objects up to 25 lbs.
Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, colors, depth perception, and peripheral vision
