We’re looking for a seasoned Senior Accountant to join our finance team and help keep our numbers as smooth as our whiskey. If you have a love for numbers, a sharp eye for detail, and a bit of a flair for the fun side of the spirits industry, we’d love to hear from you.

The Role:

As the Senior Accountant at Middle West Spirits, you’ll play a critical role in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the distillery. You’ll work closely with senior leadership to ensure financial processes are accurate, efficient, and aligned with both internal policies and industry standards. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your expertise in accounting to keep the distillery’s financial operations running smooth and without a hitch.

What You'll Be Doing:

Accounts Payable (Supervisor): Oversee and supervise the accounts payable function to ensure timely and accurate processing of all vendor invoices and payments.

- Manage relationships with vendors and suppliers, addressing any discrepancies or issues that may arise.

- Review and approve all invoices and payment requests, ensuring proper coding and alignment with company policies.

- Monitor payment schedules to ensure the distillery is optimizing cash flow while maintaining good relationships with vendors.

- Implement and maintain controls over the accounts payable process to minimize errors and prevent fraud.

- Supervise and mentor the accounts payable team, providing guidance and training to ensure team members are well-versed in procedures and best practices.

Cost Accounting: Analyze production costs, including raw materials and provide insights to management on cost control opportunities.

Reconciliation: Perform account reconciliations and identify discrepancies. Ensure accurate recording of inventory and assets, with special attention to the complex distillation process.

Tax Preparation & Compliance: Assist with tax filings and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws. Coordinate audits and work closely with external auditors.

Internal Controls: Help develop and maintain internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and ensure operational efficiency.

Process Improvement: Continually review and improve accounting processes, systems, and procedures to support the growth of the distillery.

Mentorship & Leadership: As a senior member of the team, provide guidance and training to junior accounting staff, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.

Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, sales, and operations, to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

And a little bit of everything else: From time to time, you’ll tackle other tasks and projects as they come up, adding your touch of financial brilliance wherever needed. Requirements:

Who You Are:

Experienced: You have 5+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in manufacturing or food/beverage industries. Distillery or spirits industry experience is a plus.

Detail-Oriented: You can spot a penny out of place from a mile away and understand that accuracy in accounting isn’t just important, it’s everything.

Financial Pro: You have a strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP), financial statements, and cost accounting. You’re comfortable with financial software.

Problem Solver: You thrive in a fast-paced environment, solving complex financial challenges with creative solutions while keeping everything on track.

A Great Communicator: You can explain complex financial concepts to non-financial people with ease.

Team Player: You understand the value of working together and are eager to support the entire distillery team in achieving its goals.
