Description:
Wave Life Sciences seeks a highly motivated Scientist I to join its Process Development team in Lexington, Massachusetts. This is an ideal position for an individual with a strong background in oligonucleotide upstream as well as downstream workflow and analytical characterization. Excellent opportunity for a candidate who thrives in a team-oriented, fast-paced, and cross-disciplinary biotech environment. The candidate will be part of a group focused on Process Development and process optimization aspect of synthesis and purification of oligonucleotides. This candidate will contribute to all levels of research to support the development of optimized nucleic acid therapies in multiple disease areas. Prior experience in industry in oligonucleotide synthesis is desired but not required.
Experience:
Requires a master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline with 4-7 years of related experience or a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline with 13-15 years of related experience
Responsibilities:
Synthesis of oligonucleotides, deprotection, purification, ultrafiltration and lyophilization of oligonucleotides to support projects in multiple disease areas.
Optimization of downstream processing methods and scaling up is required. Broad knowledge and experience of IEX and Reverse-phase chromatographic technique is required.
Supports continuous improvement initiatives and helps in implementing strategies once approved. Supporting various teams in impurity characterization and analysis. Ability to analyze and interpret data independently using HPLC and LC-MS.
Plan, organize and carry out laboratory work to improve the existing processes and develop new processes as well. Able to take directions from senior management and execute in timely manner.
Conduct laboratory work in a safe, efficient manner that ensures a safe working environment for all lab members.
Familiarity with pre-clinical drug development and IND-enabling phase of therapeutic programs is desired but not required.
Capacity to be highly productive in a fluid and fast-paced work environment.
Present results clearly in both written and oral format.
Keep accurate documentation of the experiments and summarize the results of the projects in written reports
Key Skills:
Strong knowledge of nucleic acids chemistry, oligonucleotide synthesis, deprotection and purification techniques
Experience with the ÄKTA line of synthesizers is desired and ÄKTA line of purifiers required
Familiarity with analytical techniques and data interpretation HPLC, LC-MS is required
