Project Engineer – Heavy Civil Construction

Location: Arlington, VA

Salary: $70,000–$90,000 (based on experience) + excellent benefits

We are a well-established and growing heavy civil contractor based in Arlington, VA, with a strong track record of delivering successful projects across the region. Our work includes roadways, bridges, utilities, earthwork, and other key civil infrastructure. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Project Engineer to join our team and help keep our projects on track.

About the Role

The Project Engineer will support the project management team in coordinating and delivering construction projects safely, on schedule, and within budget. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their construction career who’s looking to grow with an experienced team and learn the ropes of heavy civil project management.

Key Responsibilities

Assist Project Managers with scheduling, planning, and tracking project activities.

Help manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.

Work with subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to keep materials and work moving.

Track project budgets and help with cost updates and forecasting.

Attend project meetings and keep action items organized and followed up.

Support site teams in maintaining safety and quality standards.

Help close out projects by gathering as-built drawings, warranties, and final documents.

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or similar — or equivalent work experience.

1–3 years of experience in construction, ideally in heavy civil or infrastructure work.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Comfortable working with Microsoft Office; experience with tools like Procore, HCSS, or P6 is a plus.

A proactive attitude and willingness to learn and pitch in where needed.

Ability to work well with both office and field teams.
