SUMMARY
Hale Centre Theatre is seeking an experienced automation professional to join our team! The Automation Department thrives on innovation, ongoing training, and cutting-edge technology to deliver unforgettable theatrical experiences for our audiences. This position reports directly to the Head of Automation.
DESCRIPTION
As a full-time Automation Technician, you will play a vital role in the Automation Department, responsible for the operation and upkeep of automated show elements and control systems across our theatres at the Mountain America Performing Arts Centre.
This position focuses primarily on maintaining stage lifts, performer fly systems, and other theatrical rigging equipment throughout our performance spaces. Responsibilities include inspecting scenery and rigging, assisting with show installations, supporting special projects, and conducting preventative maintenance and repair of all automation assets. In addition to maintenance duties, you may be asked to support live performances by operating automation cues as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly inspections on specified automation elements as required
Perform repair or replacement of automation and/or automation rigging elements as necessary
Inspect and maintain electronic and motorized equipment and systems as directed
Troubleshoot electrical, software, and mechanical problems should they arise.
Update maintenance and/or inspection records within specified maintenance databases.
Develop a thorough knowledge of Automation equipment specific to the productions in order to operate and maintain it safely.
Engage in special projects, such as constructing and installing new show elements, and other endeavors involving automation or specific departmental requirements as instructed; Adapt availability as needed to accommodate these projects.
Build and sustain interpersonal connections by fostering positive and collaborative working relationships with others, ensuring their continuity over time.
Operate the automation control console in a safe and consistent manner for maintenance operations, performer/technician training, and performances (as required)
Participate in department trainings and development processes.
Comply with and advocate for Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations regarding the safe operation of all show-related elements. Attend all mandatory health and safety courses and emergency rescue procedure training sessions.
Maintain a safe and supportive work environment by consistently adhering to and upholding all safety standards, values, policies, and regulations set forth by Hale Centre Theatre. Utilize equipment and established work methods in accordance with these guidelines.
Work with other technical departments to maintain safety policies and procedures for maintenance, training, performer rescues, and performances.
Perform other duties assigned by HCT leadership.EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
2+ years of operational experience with theatrical automation systems. (TAIT Navigator is a plus)
2+ years of experience working and/or maintaining large-scale theatrical productions
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in automation, theatre or a related field
Understanding of the various elements of the theatre process – production, technical and performance
Working knowledge and experience with industrial machines, motors, gearboxes and related tools, including design, uses, repair, and maintenance
Working knowledge of AC\DC theory and electrical safety
Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and schematics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge and usage of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
Strong organizational and administrative skills – detail oriented
Ability to problem-solve and facilitate solutions to issues
Ability to learn quickly and adapt rapidly when required
Ability to work productively under time pressures and meet deadlines.
Ability to work independently and exercise excellent decision-making skills.
High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets.
Works well in a stressful environment with many personality types
Ability to work long hours and to manage an irregular schedule including weekends and holidays
Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment
Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card
Ability to work in an active team environment
Willingness to learn and grow
Ability to lift 50lbs+
Ability to work at heights of 75ft+PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
TAIT Navigator Automation Software operating and/or programming experience
Experience operating and/or programming performer flying systems
Basic knowledge of Siemens or Beckhoff PLC, IO, & control systems pertaining to automated stage machinery
Strong metal fabrication skills such as cutting, grinding, fitting, aligning and weldingHourly compensation commensurate with experience. Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate, including skill set, experience, and qualifications
