Senior Database Specialist

Location: Onsite in Annapolis, MD

Clearance: Active Secret required; TS preferred

FTS Inc. is partnering up with one of our client seeking a skilled Senior Database Specialist to manage and optimize enterprise database systems supporting Department of Defense projects. This hands-on role requires deep expertise in both Oracle and SQL Server, strong understanding of DoD cybersecurity standards like DISA STIGs and RMF, and experience supporting secure, high-availability environments in both on-premise and cloud-based infrastructures.

Key Responsibilities

Candidates must be able to be Authorized to work for any US employer.

Administer and maintain enterprise Oracle and SQL Server environments

Lead backup/recovery, patching, performance tuning, and data replication efforts

Design logical and physical database structures based on business needs

Apply cybersecurity best practices and ensure DISA STIG/RMF compliance

Conduct data modeling, process analysis, and security hardening

Collaborate with developers and engineers on system integrations and enhancements

Manage cloud and virtualized database environments (VMware, AWS, Azure)

Write SOPs, process flows, and technical documentation

Mentor junior DBAs and support application teams with performance tuning

Present database concepts and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Must-Have Qualifications

Clearance Requirement: Secret (TS Preferred).

8+ years of database administration experience

Hands-on with Oracle, SQL Server, and MySQL

Strong knowledge of DoD cybersecurity requirements (STIGs, RMF, FIPS 140-2, CIS Benchmarks)

Experience in cloud (AWS GovCloud/IL6, Azure Government) and virtual environments (VMware, KVM)

Familiarity with Oracle GoldenGate and two-way SQL-to-Oracle replication

Skilled in command-line tools and managing databases without GUI access

Understanding of PKI, Active Directory, SAML, OAuth2, and other authentication protocols

Proficient in backup/recovery, high availability, failover/failback, and disaster recovery planning

Strong communication and documentation skills
