Description:

The Bellevue Downtown Association (BDA) is hiring a Communications Manager to shape the voice and visibility of a dynamic nonprofit at the heart of Downtown Bellevue's growth. This role is ideal for a strong writer and content strategist who knows how to connect with diverse audiences, manage multiple platforms, and elevate the presence of community-based programs and place-based storytelling.

We're looking for someone who leads with curiosity, communicates clearly, and brings initiative and creativity to the work. This role is part of a small, collaborative team where everyone pitches in—from developing a campaign strategy to proofreading event signage. No job is too small if it contributes to a great outcome.

It's also an excellent opportunity to grow your career. This role offers hands-on leadership across communications channels, regular collaboration with senior staff and community leaders, and a front-row seat to the strategic, civic, and creative work shaping one of the nation's most dynamic urban centers.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications and Storytelling

Lead the development of integrated messaging strategies that support the BDA's mission, programs, and public voice

Write and edit newsletters, press releases, executive talking points, and key public materials

Identify and produce feature stories that highlight the people, businesses, and momentum shaping Downtown Bellevue

Ensure consistent, high-quality messaging across all communications and platforms

Digital and Web Strategy

Oversee website content and updates, ensuring relevance, accessibility, and alignment with organizational goals

Monitor performance metrics and apply insights to improve engagement and function

Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to support web campaigns and cross-platform storytelling

Social Media and Public Engagement

Manage the BDA's social media presence with a balance of thoughtful storytelling, real-time updates, and visual appeal

Maintain editorial calendars and campaign plans to support events, initiatives, and civic priorities

Monitor audience engagement and public feedback to inform strategy and messaging tone

Marketing and Program Visibility

Develop marketing content that promotes BDA-led events and community programs

Produce clear, well-branded materials for both public and member audiences

Coordinate with design partners and creative vendors to meet deadlines and uphold brand consistency

Media and Stakeholder Relations

Serve as the media contact for the organization and coordinate outreach around key announcements and opportunities

Build and maintain relationships with reporters, editors, and community influencers

Support message development for board communications, public events, and speaking engagements

Team and Community Engagement

Participate in committee settings, engage with the BDA board, and represent the organization in civic and community spaces.

Support the production of major community events, working closely with staff and volunteers to ensure a polished experience.

Contribute to a team culture that values humility, reliability, and drive—traits we believe define great collaborators.

Qualifications

Minimum 4 years of experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields

Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills

Strong project management capabilities and attention to detail

Experience with website management and digital strategy

Proficiency with social media strategy, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and content analytics tools

Comfortable working with creative vendors and managing deadlines across multiple deliverables

Skilled at working in a team setting, contributing to shared goals, and adapting to evolving priorities

An interest in Downtown Bellevue and a desire to help shape its future through effective, thoughtful communication

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time, salaried position, with competitive pay benchmarked against similar positions at membership organizations. Benefits include:

Employer-paid healthcare and dental insurance

ORCA transit pass

Paid vacation and sick leave

Employer-matched retirement savings

Hybrid flexibility (in-office with some remote work, subject to approval)

We'd love to hear from you if you're ready to grow your career, roll up your sleeves, and help shape Downtown Bellevue's future.
