Position Title: Process Engineer

Status: Exempt

Location: Port Neches, TX

Reports to: Operations Manager

Position Summary:

The Process Engineer position will provide all engineering and technical support related to the production plant while ensuring continual process improvement, optimization, and reliability. Responsibilities include but are not limited to troubleshooting, process development, and process design support. Assist with plant safety matters and employee training. Perform all other Process Engineer duties as assigned.

Essential Job Functions:

Provide process engineering support to the operating unit; provide technical expertise to achieve the safe, reliable and optimal operations of the assigned process through the appropriate application of process engineering, process control and process technology.

Monitor equipment and process; provide trouble-shooting expertise to teams across the site.

Identify productivity improvement opportunities to benefit plant operations. Areas of emphasis include: Quality control and improvement, manufacturing cost reduction, waste handling and reduction, raw material and utility consumption/cost/supply, process reliability and capacity expansions.

Conduct evaluations of plant operations and utility systems, screen options, identify and investigate process bottlenecks and constraints, map system capability and rank solutions through cost-benefit analyses.

Identify, develop and design operating and control strategies to achieve productivity objectives. Develop tracking programs and metrics for plant optimization and efficiency; monitor the targets against budget/expected performance.

Work with the plant staff and line management to identify, communicate and adopt and transfer best practices. Engage the operations team to identify opportunities, report the ideas, and screen and prioritize for implementation. Support and execute plant productivity assessments.

Provide support for the plant process, safety, and environmental activities: support management of change (MOC) process, participate in operating plant hazard reviews, and complete action items.

Provide technical review of procedures and assist in technical training.

Provide technical support and leadership on product and raw material quality issues and identify opportunities for improvement.

Assist project team during design reviews throughout the project cycle.

Performs all other duties as assigned while working effectively with shifting priorities, adjusting to the demands of other departments for the overall benefit of the organization.

Required Business Skills:

Ability to work in groups, interacting with plant operators, laboratory technicians, maintenance and I&E technicians, production engineers, plant supervision, and line management.

Ability to generate precise and accurate data/reports without significant supervision; ability to error-check own work products.

Must be flexible, focused and have the ability to work well in a lean, fast-paced work environment.

Strong analytical, communication, presentation skills, including computer proficiency for process & lab data reviews.

Excellent command of the English language, both verbally and written.

Must have high level of interpersonal skills, demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

Essential Physical Abilities:

Ability to work outdoors in an industrial environment.

Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb stairs, work in confined spaces.

Ability to meet highest attendance requirements.

Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.

Ability to use personal computer, calculator, etc.

Experience/Education:

BS in Engineering required, chemical or mechanical degree preferred.

Minimum of five (5) years working experience in a plant engineering, operations, or design role.

Prior experience working in a biodiesel, chemical or petrochemical plant required.

Prior experience of operating distillation towers is preferred.

Exposure to DCS troubleshooting and control strategies is preferred.
