The Staff/Sr Staff Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, testing, performance, documentation and production of wireless security camera products targeted to retail and small business markets.
As a full-time member of the Product Design team, you will be a leader responsible for the design, testing, performance, documentation and production of wireless security camera products targeted to retail and small business markets. These products are high-volume and all manufacturing is done in Asia.
The successful candidate will manage from concept to production, the design and tooling of plastic and metal enclosures for wireless security camera products intended for use in homes and small to medium offices. Additional tasks may include performing engineering analysis (thermal, stress, and tolerance analysis), design documentation as well as ODM management.
Job Responsibilities:
Product design, evaluation, testing, performance and documentation of products
Work closely with Product Design team, Operations, Product Marketing, Industrial Design and ODM partners to design new products or customization of existing products
Take leadership role to insure project goals of performance, cost and schedule are met
Work closely with 2nd and 3rd tier suppliers
Manage outside consultants and fabrication vendors
Some international travel is required (approx. 10-15%)

Skills and Requirements:
Minimum education level of BSME from accredited university
Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals required
Minimum 8 years' experience in the fields of Product Design and/or mechanical engineering in high-end consumer electronics such as cameras, smart devices, iOT, connected home, iOS, or a similar consumer-oriented field or 6 year plus a Master's degree.
Experience serving as a Program Lead is required. (Not over a team, but specifically leading programs/products)
Experience designing camera or camera related products is a big plus.
Deep experience in consumer electronics/product design experience is required (can be recent or slightly dated).
Extensive design experience with high-volume of over 1 million/yr., low-cost products
Proven history working closely with ambitious Industrial Design, functionality and ecosystems
In-depth knowledge of 3D CAD is required.
Prefers Creo, but will accept Pro/E, Pro/Engineer, Solidworks, etc. software, demonstrable skills in creating complex surfaces and parts, assemblies and drawings
Superior expertise in plastic injection mold part design is required
Understanding of die casting, adhesives, stamping, machining, and rapid prototypes
Experience with progressive-die sheet metal part design
Experience designing outdoor, weatherproof enclosures is a big plus
Understanding of tolerance analysis
Effective leadership, organization and project management skills
Proven ability and willingness to take ownership of project; ability to get the job done with minimal supervision
Experience in successfully leading projects through to pilot, mass production and beyond
Proven ability to track and resolve issues
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Self-starter that works well on a team
Sensitivity to design aesthetics
Fluency in Mandarin is a plus
Some international travel is required (approx. 10-15%)
Compensation depends on experience but is typically between $60-90/hr.
