MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with a broad engineering skillset, strong work habits, and a passion for hands-on project involvement. Qualified candidates will have an opportunity to support military ground vehicle projects with design and release responsibilities mechanical components and subsystems. These responsibilities include the application of engineering principles to generate designs, solve complex problems, and support the build, test and production of various projects. These projects also include the updating of legacy designs to resolve obsolescence issues and enable an efficient manufacturing process. The primary areas of focus for this role include seating, battery enclosures, steering & braking controls, shock/vibration isolation, stowage, lighting, and electro-mechanical actuators, but could include other mechanical systems as needed. Our ideal candidate is also eager to learn, able to tackle challenging projects with minimal supervision, and enthusiastic about their work.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer you're responsible for:

Developing and integrating components per derived requirements including human factors, safety, environmental, ballistic and mine blast requirements.

Applying your knowledge regarding the mechanics of materials, material selection, welding, and fabrication principles for mechanical components and complex welded brackets, mounting provisions.

Directing and coordinating CAD model and drawing development.

Ensuring analysis is performed as it relates to the design, development, and implementation of components within your area of responsibility.

Providing support to prototype, production, and sustainment vehicle efforts in addition to technical corrective action formulation, troubleshooting and redesign activities.

Updating legacy designs to address obsolescence issues and enable efficient manufacturing of complex and robust systems.

Perform other duties as assigned.

The minimum qualifications you'll bring with you:

Bachelor of Science Degree from an ABET accredited institution in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or other related Electro-Mechanical Engineering field.

5+ years of experience in related roles.

Knowledge of, and prior experience with, electromechanical systems and components, including actuators, sensors, motors, and control systems.

Experience creating fabrication drawings and familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

Demonstrates an understanding of mechanical engineering principles.

Solid modeling experience with NX or Creo.

Practical knowledge of Teamcenter and Vis Mockup.

Prior involvement in root cause and corrective action activities.

Must be highly motivated and have excellent problem-solving skills.

Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently with changing deadlines and priorities.

Must be able to work occasional evening and/or weekend overtime as required.

Ability to travel up to 10% to other facilities and military installations if needed.

This position requires eligibility to obtain a US security clearance.

Other experiences we value and additional information for you:

Previous experience working on ground combat vehicles.

Prior training in the application of GD&T.

A background in structured problem solving techniques.

Experience supporting prototype and/or production build activities.

Able to bring continuous improvement processes and methodologies to the position.

This position may require the candidate to pass an ASR test (Anthropometric Size Requirement for confined space).
