Position Overview:
Our client, a leading contract manufacturer and subcontractor on Long Island, is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Engineer to support the programming, setup, optimization, and continuous improvement of operations. This individual will work closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to ensure the efficient and accurate manufacturing of precision sheet metal components and assemblies for various industries including home land security, medical devices, semiconductor/electronics, aerospace, and industrial equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Amada machines (laser cutters, turret punches, press brakes) using SolidWorks, Amada Sheetworks, Dr Abe and AP100 software.
Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and customer specifications to develop efficient manufacturing strategies and nesting layouts.
Support new product introductions by coordinating with customers to ensure manufacturability.
Troubleshoot and optimize programs to improve cycle times, material utilization, and tooling life.
Collaborate with setup technicians and machine operators to ensure accurate execution of programs and reduce downtime.
Recommend and implement process improvements for lean manufacturing, cost reduction, and quality assurance.
Maintain programming documentation and revision controls.
Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and customer specifications.
Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in sheet metal fabrication.
Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
3+ years of experience in programming for sheet metal fabrication.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, Amada Sheetworks, Dr Abe and AP100 software, or similar.
Strong understanding of sheet metal manufacturing processes, tolerances, tooling, and material properties, and MIG/TIG/laser welding.
Experience with nesting software and optimization of material usage.
Working knowledge of GD&T, lean manufacturing, and quality systems (ISO 9001/AS9100 preferred).
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
• Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., JobBoss a plus).
