Extruder Operator/Blown Film Operator

Summary of Position:
The Extruder Operator is responsible for the efficient and safe set-up and operation of blown-film extrusion machinery, and related equipment, to ensure the production of film products that conform to the order specifications and meet quality and safety standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Reviews and understands production orders, completes operating condition worksheets throughout the production process.
Responsible for extrusion line operation and setup, machine needed adjustments for extruder RPM, zone temperature, line speed, and monitoring finished product conforms to order specification and meets quality and safety standards.
Keep additive, resin and color supplies full.
Periodically checks product and various machine meters and gauges making necessary adjustments as required to be sure that film product conforms to the order specifications and meets quality and safety standards.
Change rolls of finished product, weighs roll and records net weight on roll and production record, also puts finished roll-on skid and bands finished skid together.
Makes required machine adjustments to ensure optimal and appropriate machine operation and production of film product that conforms to order specifications and meets quality and safety standards.
Makes required machine adjustments when changing over from one production run to another, including clean up, blade changes, and resin blend changes, when necessary.
Becomes familiar with standard operating procedures as they affect the extrusion department.
May operate grinder to prepare scrap re-use.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Capable of performing all the duties of an Extruder Helper.
Monitors and mentors Extruder Helpers to ensure policies and work instructions are being performed appropriately and safely, coaches when necessary.
Keeps machinery and work area neat and clean.
Operates forklift for moving materials and equipment.
Understands and participates in the Work Order processes by identifying equipment or machinery that is malfunctioning or non-operational and reporting it appropriately.
Performs other duties as required
Product Safety / Quality Responsibilities:
Follows good manufacturing practices (GMP) to ensure product quality and medical or food safety.
Monitors production process to ensure that finished film product conforms to order specifications and meets quality and safety standards.
Qualifications:
High school education or equivalent work experience.
1+ Years of blown film extrusion or other comparable manufacturing experience.
Key Competencies
Safety, attention to detail, productivity, dependability, integrity, familiarity with tools.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
While performing duties, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Pay $16.00 to $20.00 hr.
