Position: Weld Engineer
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Summary:
The Weld Engineer provides technical welding expertise to support new and existing automotive programs. This role develops and maintains weld parameters, supports robotic welding setup, resolves weld defects, and ensures compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide welding support for all phases of production and program development
Troubleshoot and resolve weld-related defects; lead root cause investigations
Develop and maintain weld parameters, schedules, and testing procedures
Support robotic weld programming (Fanuc and ABB preferred)
Create documentation and work instructions for manual and automated weld processes
Participate in APQP and recommend improvements to weld cell design and tooling
Maintain weld drawings and schedules database
Train staff on welding procedures and equipment troubleshooting
Recommend equipment or process changes to improve quality and efficiency
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Weld Engineering or equivalent
3–5 years’ experience in automotive welding and program development
Strong knowledge of automotive weld processes (RSW, GMAW, etc.)
Familiar with industry standards (GM, AWS, RWMA), APQP, PPAP, and GD&T
Experience in robotic weld programming and equipment setup
Proficient in Microsoft Office; strong analytical and project management skills
Able to work flexible hours and effectively lead cross-functional teams
