General Job Summary: Advanced practice providers on our team play an integral role in the global management of neurosurgical patients, including all aspects of pre-, intra- and post-operative care. Neurosurgery APPs perform patient histories, formulate treatment plans, and manage post-operative care in the hospital under the supervision of the attending neurosurgeon. This position will work in tandem with other APPs rotating a 7 on 7 off rotating shifts schedule. Candidate should be well-rounded and have a good background in emergency medicine, trauma, and/or surgery.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
Interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests
Interpret and correlate subjective and objective data
Formulate differential diagnosis and establish a working diagnosis
Formulate treatment plans for emergent, acute and chronic neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice in consultation with the attending neurosurgeon
Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate
Exercise judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising neurosurgeon or other physicians/healthcare professionals
Work in conjunction with in-house and/or at-home on-call junior and senior neurosurgical residents Hospital Duties & Responsibilities:
Perform initial trauma, ED, ICU and floor consults
Formulate treatment plans and consult with attending neurosurgeon and neurosurgical resident (when resident on-call)
Manage calls from Atrium Physician Referral Line, outlying EDs, hospitals and consulting physicians
Arrange /manage transfer of patients requiring emergent and acute neurosurgical care
Manage calls from established Carolina Neurosurgery & Spine outpatients
Order appropriate radiographic studies
Evaluate post-operative patients
Review radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities
Evaluate, screens and counsels patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources
Design, conduct and/or participate in research studies
Manage databases
Perform quality assurance
