This position is with NorthStar Clean Energy, a CMS Energy company, and is not a position of employment with Consumers Energy.
The Lead Control Room Operator is responsible for the operation of industrial machinery and equipment. They monitor, control, and maintain these systems to ensure that they run smoothly and efficiently. They will be responsible for overseeing the work of a team for the smooth and efficient running of the plant, as well as ensuring that all safety protocols are followed. The lead control room operator will also be responsible for conducting regular maintenance and repairs on the plant equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Directing Lead Control Room Operator, Plant Operators, and Fuel Supply Operators to support efficient plant operation. Oversees the work of sub-contractors on assigned shift, as necessary. Trains plant personnel in accordance with Company policies and government regulations
Field and Plant Operations
Operating the Plant in a safe and efficient manner while complying with all station procedures and environmental regulations and directing the activities on their shift
Monitors the operation of major plant equipment and systems and takes appropriate action to ensure they are operated safely, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements according to the Emissions Minimization Plan, in a manner consistent with maximizing availability and in a manner consistent with optimizing fuel efficiency
Operates assigned control systems including distributed control, water, steam, combustion, turbine generator and related components in a safe and efficient manner
Directs the activities of the Lead Control Room Operator, Plant Operators and Fuel Supply Operators as necessary to support the overall plant operation
Maintains a log of significant operating activities and events and generates required reports
Logs significant plant parameters as determined by plant management. Identifies and corrects problems; reports problems requiring further action to the Operations & Maintenance supervisor
Directs and ensures completion of required safety procedures; (e.g., lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work)
Takes measurements and readings and compares with standards; implements corrective actions within established procedures. Assists in maintaining the boiler system by adding/transferring chemicals as needed to maintain desired parameters
Responds to alarms in a timely manner; operates necessary equipment to effectively respond to critical situations
Other non-essential duties as assigned or may be necessary
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Meets qualifications of a Sr Control Room Operator
Have a working knowledge of LOTO, confined space, P & ID's, hot work
Ability to use past experience, analytical judgement, to plan and perform diversified work
Good decision making skills to keep all crew members and site equipment safe
Excellent communication skills to provide clear direction and feedback to all team members on the site
Agility to be able to work overtime, as well as rotating shift schedules that include weekends and holidays
Proven experience as Plant Operator and Sr Control Room Operator
Position Requirements:
Associate Degree in industrial technology, engineering, or related field required
7+ years of relevant work experience
