We have an exciting opportunity to hire an Applications Scientist for our Sweet Goods Team at the Development Center in Lebanon, Ohio! This role will be responsible for creating Sweet Product application (functional confection focus) demonstrations using MANE flavors and technologies that provide winning customer solutions. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using highly advanced technical principles, theories, concepts, and formulating expertise for new product categories. Establish cross-functional teams and present/interface with external customers to support Sales initiatives. Continually assess & improve lab capabilities by interfacing with external vendors to improve application bases & processing techniques. Lead technical objectives of assigned projects and proactively create new and improve existing application capabilities. A strong process-oriented background & project management skills will be critical for success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensure laboratory activities meet/exceed technical, safety, and efficiency goals. Responsible to build & manage technical projects for Mane business partners such as Category Management & Sales. Ensure all project parameters (Project timeline, Regulatory constraints, pricing & technical merit) are achieved.
Responsible to build technically sound application prototypes utilizing Mane flavors & technologies. Provide input to Flavorist & Research & Development teams to create the best possible customer showings.
Responsible to choose best flavor selections for applications purposes. You will directly choose flavor selections & provide feedback to Flavorists & Commercial partners.
Responsible for organizing cross-functional & global teams to solve flavor & food applications challenges.
Support Sales initiatives by presenting MANE capabilities at customers &/or at targeted technical/commercial conferences.
Responsible to support Library initiatives & strategic Research & Development projects.
Responsible for cross-training staff members & learning to create all ranges of Sweet Category applications in a food environment. Focus on all confection segments: gum, sugar confection and chocolate.
Responsible for identifying new capabilities, technologies & introduction into the laboratory environment. Identify flavor technology gaps and lead cross-functional initiatives to close those gaps.
Remain current with advances in application processes, commercial dynamics & competitor products / technologies.
Liaison with external vendors to improve application bases & knowledge of new application introductions
Motivated to win business through success with projects and meeting customer needs.
Self-Starter – Actively seeks new and better ways to perform duties.
Proficient technical skills with formulation, raw materials, flavors, and product processing.
Proficient experimental design skills, market product knowledge and competitive intelligence.
Solid communication skills, verbal and with Customer interactions and presentations
Advanced Technical scope, complexity and problem-solving capabilities
Ability and willingness to assist in training junior staff in Sweet application ingredients, formulations, processes, industry expectations, troubleshooting, and networking.

Possess a technical skill and knowledge of flavors and flavor systems with the ability to manage multiple lines of projects.
Ability to discuss projects directly with Tier 1 external customers
Ability to reverse engineer market products through formula and analytical understanding
Collaborative and transparent – discuss formulas & projects openly with other teammates
Strong verbal and written communication skills

Excellent Project Management
Computer experience, with emphasis on Microsoft Office and formulation software.
Understanding of safe laboratory practices
Education and Experience:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Food Science or related field; combination of education and experience will be considered. In addition to a degree, four plus years of product development experience.
