Inside Machinist 2nd Class

Project Location: Philadelphia PA

Project Duration: 2 weeks

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.

Set up and operates various machine tools such as engine lathes, milling machines, “boring” mills, planers and precision grinders for machining castings, forgings and bar stock of various metal and metal alloys from raw stock to finished product.

Determine work procedures, machines, holding accessories, cutting tools, equipment and attachments to be used.

Use specialized measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, inside and outside micrometers, surface gages, center-head protractors and dial indicators.

Hold and maintain .0005 tolerances.

Select and set cutting speeds, feed rates, depths of cuts, and cutting tools according to machining instructions or knowledge of metal properties.

Maintain sharp, organize, and replace component parts for machine cutting tools and/or other manufacturing supplies.

Properly use premium gauges and controls and machine tools to check parts, to provide input for process and productivity improvement.

Required Education & Experience:

High School Diploma and/or one year certificate from college or technical school with emphasis on machining preferred.

Industrial and/or marine inside machining experience:

1st Class:4-8 years

2nd Class:2-4 years

Working Conditions:

Machine shop that may be noisy, hot, cold, etc.

Must be able to stand and operate equipment up to four continuous hours.

Must wear hearing, eye and head protection.

Working with hot and sometimes hazardous chemicals on a daily basis.

Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.

Necessary Equipment Operation:

All manual machine shop equipment

Drill presses.

Manual lathes.

Mills.

Saws.

Special Skills:

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings and technical manuals in order to machine parts and products according to specifications.

Use shop mathematics and standard handbook formulas in computing dimensions for planning and laying out work.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

High performance and a strong team player.

Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures with minimal supervision.
