Job Description
The Layer Service Technician is a key member of the Kreider Farms poultry production team, providing hands-on service, technical support, and expert consultation for our layer and pullet flocks. This position frequently visits Kreider Farms' production locations and contract pullet growers to ensure optimal bird health, performance, and welfare, while upholding company standards and industry best practices.Principal Accountabilities & Essential Job Functions:
80% – Layer Service
Conducts on-site visits to layer and pullet farms, typically spending a full day per site.
Monitors feeding, watering, ventilation, and lighting systems for performance optimization.
Tracks and evaluates flock health, body condition, egg production, and welfare.
Collects, analyzes, and documents flock performance data via the ChickHen system.
Advises on feed formulations, bird behavior management, and mortality investigations.
Collaborates with veterinarians and nutritionists for proactive flock health programs.
Ensures compliance with animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
5% – Bird Movement and Housing
Coordinates chick placement, pullet transfer, and housing schedules.
Maintains regular communication with transport providers and breeder companies.
Supports scheduling to optimize barn space and productivity.
5% – Bird Health Programs
Provides input on vaccine strategies and administers regular blood sampling/swabbing.
Interprets lab results and collaborates with veterinary professionals.
Tracks vaccination costs and efficacy, making program improvement recommendations.
10% – Additional Duties
Supports the success of flocks by assisting with related pullet and layer operations.
Contributes to team goals, project support, and other duties as assigned.
