Position Summary: Reporting to the President & CEO, the Internal Audit and Risk Management Executive oversees internal audit and risk management processes to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Leads the planning, development, and implementation of comprehensive internal audit programs, including financial, operational, and compliance audits, to ensure the integrity and reliability of financial reporting and operational efficiency.
Develops and maintains an effective internal control environment by identifying risks, evaluating controls, and recommending improvements to safeguard NHEC’s assets, reporting identified risks regularly to the Audit Committee.
Regularly reports to the Audit Committee on risks, internal audit compliance, and cyber security audit findings, understanding that the Audit Committee of the Board is responsible for oversight of NHEC’s internal audit process.
Coordinated the Enterprise Risk Management assessment and reporting linked to the Strategic Plan, including working with other senior staff to identify external resources to assist the process (e.g.
CFC). Collaborates with the Security Operations Manager to conduct cyber security audits, ensuring the protection of NHEC’s digital assets and compliance with relevant regulations.
Reviews and evaluates company-wide departmental processes and procedures, providing recommendations for improvements and ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
Coordinates with external financial auditors, providing necessary documentation and support to facilitate the external audit process and addressing follow-up questions or analysis work that may arise.
Develops and maintains a systematic internal audit tracking system, building on past data and prepare and present detailed internal audit reports to the CEO and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors, regularly highlighting key findings, risks, and recommendations for corrective actions.
Internally Audits NHEC's financial controls and compliance with procedures and best practices, reviewing the company's financial records and ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data.
Working closely with the CFO or their designee to minimize NHEC’s risk exposure by ensuring all lines of appropriate insurance coverage is in place, negotiating contract for appropriate coverage.
Manages all claims with the appropriate stakeholders and assist external entities with documentation, as well as claim guidance.
This includes all non-employee insurance renewals and claims.
Supports the objectives of NHEC by participating in strategic planning sessions and providing insights based on the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) assessment, and internal audit findings.
Provides ad-hoc analytical reports to the CEO, Audit Committee and staff, responding promptly to requests for information and analysis.
Supports strategic goals of NHEC by assisting in the process of achieving Balanced Scorecard objectives.
Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by exhibiting self-leadership, developing and maintaining effective working relationships, having a results orientation, being innovative, and seeking feedback.

Required Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or a related field preferred, five (5) plus years’ experience in relevant role will be considered in lieu of a degree.
A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in a progressively responsible auditing or financial management position.
Participation in risk mitigation, such as risk assessments and abatement experience will be considered, and preferred.
Solid understanding of risk assessment techniques, insurance policies, and claim handling procedures.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management and insurance.
Extensive knowledge and experience managing internal control frameworks, risk management practices and assessments such as ERM, and audit methodologies.
Proven expertise in developing and managing databases, including for tracking procedural compliance.
Proven proficiency in electronic information systems.
Familiarity with cyber security audits and relevant regulations and standards.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and procedural data, manage databases and develop actionable recommendations.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely to senior management and the Board of Directors.
Ability to recommend business applications for computer systems.
Preferred Education and Experience: Master’s Degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA) 5 years’ experience undertaking Internal Audit.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, including those promulgated by the Financial Accounting Standards Board, and familiarity with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Uniform system of accounts.

Power Restoration Assistance with power restoration is required of all employees.
Employees will be assigned functions to support power restoration and for some employees that may be different from their normal duties.
Such assistance may require working nights, weekends and holidays which may involve considerable extra hours.

The targeted salary range for this position is $110,000 - $127,000 with anticipated pay for new hires between the entry and midpoint of this range and could vary above and below the listed range.
Pay is based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, licensure requirements, proficiency and qualifications required for the role.
