JOB SUMMARY:
Provide comprehensive, quality social work services to children in compliance with Michigan’s Special Education Rules and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act 2004 requirements. Comprehensive services include identifying, assessing, correcting and preventing social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive problems and other related disorders through providing instruction, direction, consultation and interpretation of recommendations to children, staff and family members, multi-disciplinary teamwork, counseling, referrals and education of families and professionals to assist children to fully participate in their educational experiences.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide social work services including but not limited to assessments of referred students for purpose of determining eligibility for special education services. These assessments may include classroom and student observations, conducting interviews with children, school personnel, parent(s) or legal guardian(s), and reviewing past and present school records.
Must complete a minimum of 500 hours of services that are supervised by a LMSW (if working toward School Social Work SSW-310 recommendation/approval) within the first school year of employment with Boldli
Evaluate and re-assess children referred to social work, with written parental consent, in required time frames. Makes referral (speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, psychologist, etc.) as appropriate.
Develop behavioral intervention plans and individual service plans, specifying annual goals, short-term objectives, timelines and persons responsible for implementation.
Provide individual and group counseling services for identified students.
Consult with students’ teachers on implementing classroom intervention strategies and techniques.
Refer the student and parents/guardians to appropriate community resources for services not available at the Boldli. Completes documentation necessary for these referrals.
Maintain contact with students’ parent/guardian for the purpose of exchanging information, assessing the student’s progress and providing support.
Provide crisis intervention services for students, teachers, and parents when appropriate.
Participates as a contributing member of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team (MET) and Individual Education Planning (IEP) meetings. Family conferences, etc. Develops IEP goals in collaboration with the team
Completes required written documentation including daily notes, monthly reports, and quarterly progress notes in accordance with school/program standards.
Works collaboratively as a team member with parents, caregivers, teachers, and other professionals, in order to provide comprehensive therapy services to improve functioning of children in home and school environments.
Schedules social work services to schools, with flexibility allowed for attending IEP meetings, and other professional commitments. Keeps school(s) apprised of schedule and schedule changes.
Shares professional recommendations and information and conducts workshops/in-services with educators, para-educators, schools administration, and families to facilitate best educational environment for students.
Attends school and Boldli staff meetings as required.
Seeks opportunities to expand knowledge of social work and related fields and demonstrates professional growth through participation in the continuing education process, in-services, keeping current with developments in the field of occupational therapy through attendance at professional meetings, seminars and workshops and review of the literature.
Keeps Director informed about work related information and service delivery issues.
Performs other job related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Master’s Degree in Social Work from accredited institution.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Registered as Social Worker in State of Michigan.
School Certification, (full or temporary or working toward) required for K-12 setting
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Demonstrated competence in assessment, goal development, and treatment of social, emotional, behavioral and adaptive disorders.
Previous work experience providing pediatric social work services or pediatric field work is preferred.
Knowledge and/or training regarding stages of childhood development.

Knowledgeable of the State of Michigan Special Education Rules and IDEA 2004 requirements.
Knowledge of community resources for special needs population.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Varied off site locations. Work space accommodations assigned by school personnel. Travel in own vehicle to various locations.
Several open positions in Metro Detroit include: Warren, Mt. Clemons, Detroit, Waterford. Position can be full time combined hours or part time.
