Vertical Mill CNC Machinist

Job Description

Position Overview:

Our client is seeking a skilled Vertical Mill CNC Machinist to join their team. The machinist will be primarily responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC vertical milling machines to produce precision metal components. This role requires hands-on experience in vertical milling operations, CNC programming, and the ability to interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities:

Set up and operate Vertical Mill CNC Machinist to manufacture high-precision components according to engineering drawings and job specifications.

Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and work-holding devices specific to vertical milling operations.

Program CNC mills using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX) or G-code for efficient machining.

Monitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and surface finishes.

Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure parts meet specified dimensions.

Conduct routine machine maintenance and cleaning to ensure continued optimal performance and minimal downtime.

Identify and resolve machining issues, tool wear, or program errors to sustain production quality and efficiency.

Maintain a clean and safe work area and adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in machining preferred.

Proven experience as a CNC Vertical Mill Machinist or in a similar CNC machining role.

Proficient in setting up and operating CNC vertical mills, including tool setup and work offset adjustments.

Strong understanding of blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric tolerancing.

Experience with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, or Siemens NX.

Solid math skills to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and optimal cutting speeds/feeds.

Familiarity with ISO standards, quality inspection procedures, and first article inspections (FAI).

Knowledge of tooling selection and toolpath optimization techniques.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs as needed.

Prolonged standing, bending, and manual handling of parts during machine operation.

Good eyesight and attention to detail for inspection and precision work.
