John’s Island Property Owners Association, Inc.

John’s Island is a private gated residential community located in Vero Beach, Florida. It is comprised of 1,650 pristine acres, miles of beaches and riverfront properties. Comprised with 17 miles of roadways, 5 entry gates and a mixture of over 1390 residential homes, townhomes, cottages, and condominiums. Located within the community is a world-renowned club with 2 golf courses, tennis courts, pickleball courts, beach club with pool facilities and an offsite club and golf course as well.

Description

Job title: Director of Safety & Security

Reports to: General Manager

Position Overview

Are you an experienced leader with a passion to provide the community with the safest and most secure environment? We’re looking for a director to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Security Department along with coming up with innovative ideas to improve the well-being of the community.

Key Responsibilities

Staffing & Employee relations – Lead and manage a dedicated team of over 30 individuals, ensuring staff are trained, supported, motivated and working efficiently to meet the community’s needs while fostering a positive, mission driven atmosphere.

Take ownership of the day-to-day operations of the Security Department.

Ensure the community remains a safe, welcome, secure environment for the residents.

Prepare and manage the department’s annual budget.

Provide a balance between being approachable and transparent to community members while enforcing the governing documents and rules and regulations.

Qualifications

A minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in security or a related field.

General knowledge of firearms, to include training.

Technology experience with camera systems.

Ability to work collaboratively with the Board, Security Committee, staff and residents.

You should live within a close enough radius of John’s Island to be able to respond to situations accordingly.

College degree preferred.

Job Duties

Security Committee / HOA board

Prepare recommendations for potential changes to policies or rules and regulations.

Carry out decisions from committees after board approval.

Keep and maintain strong working relationships with government agencies and other community representatives.

Arrange committee meetings, prepare agendas and provide appropriate material pertaining to the agenda.

Financial

Collaborate with the Director of Finance to prepare annual budget.

Ensure financial compliance with industry standards.

Oversee all expenditures.

Human Resources

Manage hiring, terminations, and supervision of all security staff.

Evaluate employee’s performance annually based on Association policies.

Oversee the scheduling of the staff.

Recommend changes in staffing levels and structure to improve efficiency.

Certifications

Certifications desirable or the willingness to pursue them after employment

Community Association Manager License (CAM)

Manager’s (M) license through the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Licensing.

Class “D” Security Officer license through the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Licensing.

Class “G” Statewide Firearm license through the Florida Department of Agriculture Division of Licensing.
