WHAT WOULD I DO AS A CONTROLS ENGINEER?

Our Controls Engineer is responsible for the planning, design, programming and implementation of PLC/HMI and/or PC based control systems. This includes system design, PLC programming, PC programming (.Net), HMI programming, robot programming, machine vision, system commissioning, industrial communication network implementation and installation.

This position must be capable of understanding a project’s scope, goals, and underlying technical requirements. They are expected to balance a client’s needs and expectations, the project budget and schedule, and the technical execution of the project to consistently achieve technical project success.

WHAT ARE MY MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES?

Systems integration projects within an industrial automation

Design control systems through interpretation of customer-supplied control descriptions, interviews with clients and owners, analysis of system mechanical requirements and any other means necessary to create a functional software design

Design/programming of control systems for automated equipment, including work with PLC’s, servo motion, robotics, machine vision, etc.

Write structured, well-documented, bug-free programs aligned with company standards

Design intuitive, easy-to-navigate, aesthetically pleasing HMI interfaces.

Work with other project team members as needed to successfully share programming responsibilities as required.

Design software to support thorough, systematic, in-house testing prior to on-site commissioning.

Thoroughly test system software prior to exposure to the client.

Interfacing with outside vendors for component selection, manufacturing, and assembly.

Commissioning of a machine to meet customer quality and cycle time requirements including testing and on-site startup.

Ensuring that projects are delivered on-time, within the scope and within budget

Creating and maintaining comprehensive project documentation

WHAT QUALIFICATIONS DO YOU LOOK FOR?

Applicable engineering degree and experience, BS in engineering is preferred but others considered

5+ years of experience with automated equipment

Ability to quickly understand complex applications

Highly competent to expert level PLC and PC programming skills

Ability to work remotely or from home part of the time

Willingness and ability to complete projects on time and within budget

Able to write complete PLC programs from beginning to end for Rockwell, Beckhoff and/or Siemens

Able to program Rockwell, Siemens, Beckhoff and third-party HMI’s

Experience with industrial robots such as Fanuc, UR, ABB

Experience with AC and Servo motion control Programming, bar-code and RFID applications

Experience with data logging and database interfaces

Excellent interpersonal skills involving the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment

Ability to multitask by handling diverse assignments concurrently.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

Will be able to work effectively with minimal oversight.

Must work well with clients and coworkers.

Must be able to travel – the job will require some out of town work typically but also possible to travel internationally for customer support and project installations up to 25% but typically 1-2 weeks per quarter
