Design Engineer – Interior/Exterior Plastics
The Design Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality design and engineering solutions for customers, working with a high level of autonomy.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead product development efforts, negotiating designs and requirements to meet quality, feasibility, cost, and profitability goals.
Collaborate with teams to create 2D/3D product proposals, delegate tasks, and manage design changes.
Benchmark competitor components and emerging technologies to enhance competitiveness.
Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in design, analysis, measurement, testing, and prototyping.
Create technical reports, manage open items, and prepare presentation packages for internal and external stakeholders.
Improve component designs, establish design guidelines, and align development processes with quality standards.
Collaborate with customers and internal teams to resolve component issues and ensure functional requirements are met.
Participate in Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement design improvements based on findings.
Utilize new technologies to enhance product development and streamline processes.
Evaluate and develop suppliers based on stability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Apply engineering logic and calculations to design and resolve issues with complex plastic components and injection molding processes.
Support continuous improvement efforts in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and engineering plastic injection molded components.
Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up studies, injection molding, and tooling fundamentals.
Experience with injection tooling, processing, and Mold Flow CAE analysis is preferred.
Proficiency with CAD software, Microsoft Office, and project management tools.
Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with attention to detail.
