Epsilon Systems Solutions has a contingent job opportunity for a full-time Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in Norfolk, VA.

Summary: The Engineering Technician (Mechanical) will support East Coast Carriers stationed at Naval station Norfolk and Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY).

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide technical support to U.S Navy Ships for the assessment and repair

Deliver on-the-job training (OJT), logistics support, material condition assessments, and mechanical repairs for pumps, valves, compressors, and watertight doors

Complete on-site mechanical repairs to Hull Mechanical & Electrical equipment aboard U.S. Navy Aircraft Carriers

Conduct cold/hot checks to determine equipment condition and identify parameters that are out of specification

Observe operation of the equipment by ship’s force to witness the full range of performance where possible

Provide written visit debrief/reports to the SME upon completion of each ship visit

Inspect, diagnose, service and repair mechanical systems using a variety of tools and instruments

Candidate will be working as part of a small team. When not working in their primary specialty they will be required to assist other trades specialties in the performance of their work

Provide basic hand tools and specialty tools required for their trade specialty

Required Qualifications:

Eight (8) years’ experience in the operation, repair, and maintenance of naval or marine propulsion hull, mechanical, or electrical systems is highly desired

Must have HS Diploma or equivalent

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, diagrams, or other mechanical technical data pertaining to the construction and operation of naval hull, mechanical, and electrical equipment

Two (2) years’ experience in a position of team leader or supervisor of subordinate work groups is desired

It is preferable if personnel have prior shipboard mechanical repair and testing experience

An Associate Degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited college or university may be substituted for up to two (2) years of technician experience

Quantified, specialized skills such as trade qualifications, manufacturer certifications of training for shipboard related systems, equipment and components may be substituted for up to two (2) years of technician experience for each major qualification or specialized trade skill

All personnel assigned must have the below qualifications and they must be current or be able to obtain:

OSHA 7615 Shipyard Employment 10-hour training course

Obtain and maintain a secret clearance

Respirator qualified to include a physical and fit test

ADA Notations:

Frequent standing, sitting, walking, handling, feeling with hands, reaching with arms

Will be required to work aboard ships in a shipyard environment under industrial conditions.

Able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to include hard hats, hearing protection and safety glasses

Regular Communication (hearing and speaking)

Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching

Ability to go aboard ships, barges and other naval craft

Ability to move in narrow and restricted passageways, up/down steep and narrow ladders or stairways onboard ships

Ability to lift, carry and move objects up to 50 lbs in weight
