Your team and your responsibilities

Team/division description

The Vehicle Performance Engineering division (VPE) is part of R&D at Toyota Motor Europe Technical Centre in Zaventem, Belgium. Our division is in charge of:

Identifying market requirements and trends and turning them into development targets for vehicles and their subsystems

Proposing reasonable designs and structures to achieve the market requirements

Validate the performance of prototypes through physical testing

Researching state of the art and beyond state-of-the-art technologies for implementation in future vehicles

Developing the state-of-the-art methods to set these requirements, predict the performances and validate them

The Reliability & Strength team is responsible for the structural durability and strength of the body-in-white and chassis.

Your project

Within our team, you will work on the validation of an algorithm that detects certain driving events in vehicle big data (i.e. driving over a speedbump) and estimates the forces experienced by the vehicle during these events. As the forces are not measured on the vehicle, they are derived from indirectly correlated sensors through machine learning. Your activities consist of:

Applying the algorithm to existing big data set and determining the location of the events

Setting up a validation experiment at the location derived from big data together with our testing team.

Analysing and comparing the measurement data to the output of the algorithm.

Based on the gathered data, expanding the algorithm to detect other events and classifying them according to their severity.
