RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Counsel will support the Abbott Nutrition Division of Abbott Laboratories. The successful candidate will have opportunities to:
Develop a deep understanding of Abbott’s technologies and customers
Provide ongoing patent-related training to the business
Provide legal and strategic guidance to clients, including senior management
Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and mine strategic inventions
Manage invention disclosures, including collecting and screening disclosures, conducting inventor interviews, and providing recommendations on filing strategies
Manage an active docket, including overseeing the filing and prosecution of U.S. and foreign patent applications and the strategic development of the portfolio
Manage outside counsel, including reviewing work product to ensure it meets Abbott’s expectations
Conduct due diligence assessments on potential mergers and acquisitions
Complete freedom-to-operate assessments
Assist internal and external litigation counsel on IP litigation matters
Develop and implement patent strategies for key projects
Participate in the effective management of the budget
REQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admitted to a U.S. state bar in good standing
USPTO registration in good standing
Strong academic background
Minimum of 7 years working as a patent attorney and counseling clients on intellectual property issues, including freedom-to-operate and patent prosecution
Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
Strong interpersonal skills and strategic thinking
Ability to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously
High standards for quality and excellence
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience handling PTAB proceedings/EPO Oppositions and supporting patent litigation
Significant freedom-to-operate or product clearance experience
In-house experience
Working knowledge of patent laws in major jurisdictions outside of the U.S.
USPTO experience
The base pay for this position is $147,300.00 – $294,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
