NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Senior Web Developer based in our Charlotte, North Carolina office.
The Senior Web Developer is responsible for the development, technical support and ongoing technical maintenance of the company’s digital platforms.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Provide technical guidance and leadership to the Technology, Operations and overall Digital Media team on major web development projects and initiatives
Design and code superior technical solutions enforce coding standards
Maintain a deep understanding of existing digital platform including associated databases, data sources and dependencies, workflow, information architecture, and legacy systems currently in production
Train and mentor team members on development projects and skills related to development and processes
Recognize and evaluate system deficiencies; implement effective solutions
Maintain responsible for the end-user experience via the interface, sitemap, site architecture, feeds architecture and back-end code functionality
Write new documentation as needed; evaluate existing documentation for thoroughness and accuracy
Facilitate and participate in the testing of Web applications
Work closely with visual designers to bridge design and engineering work effort
Work with the Technical Operations Team to support Live Race Events (occasional weekends on-call)
Work with the Technical Operations Team to support the deployment of new website releases (occasional weekday nights)
Travel: 5%
Supervisor Duties:
Directly supervises assigned staff. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Required skills / experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and a minimum of eight (8) years web software development experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum five (6) years’ experience developing web applications for high traffic consumer facing websites
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Proficient on Company-provided hardware and software.
Able to understand and utilize web standards and protocols (HTML, CSS, HTTP, etc.)
Strong technical research skills
Experience with Source Control tools (SVN, GIT, etc.)
Experience working within the sports industry, ideally working with sports leagues or governing bodies
Preferred:
Experience developing WordPress Websites including custom themes, plugins, and widgets
Experience developing websites using responsive design best practices
Experience developing for and within WordPress CMS
Experience architecting large technical solutions
Experience working in a UNIX environment
Experience with NodeJS
Experience with React / React Native
Experience with cloud development within AWS platform
