Role and Responsibilities
The Sterile Compounding Technician is responsible for interpreting formula worksheets and compounding medication using approved equipment and aseptic processes. Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining the compounding equipment. All duties are performed under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. The Sterile Compounding Technician demonstrates a commitment to the mission and goals of Source Pharmacy.
Responsibilities include:
Entering prescriptions and refills into the pharmacy system accurately and meet productivity measurements
Data entry of new orders for staff pharmacist review
Answer phones and answer customer questions
Be responsive and courteous when addressing internal and external patient/customer needs
Measures, weighs, counts, and compounds medications
Mixes pharmaceutical preparations according to formulation logs
Establishes and maintains accurate patient records by entering correct lot numbers and expiration dates of compounded medications
Maintains proper storage and security conditions for medications
Preparation and compounding of sterile products
Maintaining the pharmacy clean room suite to USP 797 requirements
Experience with following aseptic techniques in LAFW
Capable of successfully completing Hand Hygiene and Garbing qualification
Experience using a automated compounding device
Inventory management and storage, complete appropriate documentation, such as labels, log sheets and reports
Clean equipment and sterilize glassware using dry heat ovens or autoclaves
Performs to established efficiency metrics while adhering to quality standards
Maintains compliance with Company and HIPAA patient confidentiality requirements
Performs other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Registration with Florida DOH as a licensed technician is required upon hire
Sterile and/or non-sterile compounding experience
Excellent attention to detail
Good computer skills (data entry, Microsoft Office products, email, internet, etc)
Good math skills are essential
Good manual dexterity
Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic environment
Ability to maintain a clean workspace
The ability to work independently and use own initiative
An awareness of health and safety regulations
Ability to listen to and follow instructions
Ability to concentrate for long periods of time
Additional Notes
The position requires working in a variety of positions and locations such as sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and walking for prolonged periods of time
Potential exposure to chemicals used in the preparation of compounds (some chemicals are classified as toxic and special safety precautions must be taken when working with these chemicals)
Must be able to use necessary equipment such as computers, scanners, lab equipment or other equipment as assigned
Must be able to wear required compounding safety equipment for long periods of time when required
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working at a computer and on the phone
Must be able to use necessary equipment such as computers, scanners, phone/headset, or other technology devices as assigned

Full-time
