**GENERAL DUTIES**
Performs highly-skilled laboratory functions and other technical duties in support of coursework.

**CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION**
The College of Staten Island (CSI) is a City University of New York (CUNY) senior College organized around two academic divisions and three schools, with over 10,000 students. Reporting to the Senior College Lab Tech, the College Lab Tech:
+ Coordinates the needs of principal investigators, graduate, and undergraduate students.
+ Maintains transgenic breeding colonies and perform daily husbandry tasks for general experimental animal populations.
+ Provides care for animal populations requiring specialized training, such as USDA-regulated mole rats, and monitor their health and welfare.
+ Attends to all reported animal injuries or illnesses, perform routine medical care, and administer euthanasia as necessary.
+ Conducts environmental monitoring for both the macro environment (facility level) and the microenvironment (cage level) for both facilities.
+ Assists the Director/Senior College Lab Tech in supervising Animal Facility staff and overseeing the daily activities of college assistants/animal care staff, including work assignments, scheduling, supervision, and training.
+ Coordinates Department of Health, USDA, and I.A.C.U.C. facility inspections in the Director’s absence and maintains routine facility records.
+ Receiving and processes incoming animals and oversees all quarantine procedures for newly arrived animals.
+ Coordinates veterinary care, administration of medications, and perform routine medical care.
+ Maintains and repairs equipment and inventory for both animal facilities.
+ Maintains availability for on-call duties during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**
High School Diploma with a minimum of four years' related experience. Additional education may be used to meet the experience requirement: an Associate degree may be substituted for two years experience, and a Bachelor's degree may be substituted for four years experience.
**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**
At least 3 years’ experience in animal care and husbandry preferred. Experience with USDA inspections and regulations preferred. Experience working in laboratory animal science preferred. Flexibility to work on call, weekends, evenings and holidays.
**COMPENSATION**
$50,655 - $52,559
Salary commensurate with education and experience.

*CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted by 6.09% with additional increases of 3.25% effective 9/1/2025 and 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
