Job Description:
Summary:
The Materials Engineer serves as a technical resource to operations, purchasing, supplier quality and product engineering on metallurgical topics. The Materials Engineer will also provide guidance on product failures and offer design improvements to product engineering.
Responsibilities:
Support the development of new part/product designs as they relate to heat treatment, material specification, machinability, and product durability
Provide metallurgical analysis from heat treatment and welding processes to ensure quality conformance
Provide support to resolve operational problems with heat treat and welding equipment
Provide support in evaluating new heat treat suppliers and laboratories
Continuously improve quality, cost, responsiveness, and safety
Experience Required:
Education Requirement: Bachelor of Science Degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent experience
Ability to work in a cross-functional environment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills
Ability to multi-task, while producing quality work. Self-motivated / Self-starter
Skills Preferred:
1+ years of heat treating experience
Strong understanding of heat treatment including: carburizing, nitriding, and hardening of commercial steels
Knowledge of induction hardening and welding processes
Understanding of manufacturing processes and machining
Knowledge of gear design and material selection
Experience with analytical techniques in a metallurgical laboratory
