Job Description
Primary responsibility of the position is to assist Roast Plant Manager with organizing, coordinating, and performing all Roast Plant operations including roasting, packaging, maintenance, inventory control and warehousing of dry goods and Food Safety. Maintain high production levels through continuous monitoring of product output quantity and quality per established work standards to meet all sales demands. Supervises the work of Roast Plant workers and operators and assists with maintaining the established Food Safety programs.
Primary Functions:
Schedules, coordinates, and supervises department activities and all roast plant employees.
Trains, develops, motivates, and disciplines staff to build a competent workforce that will successfully meet production demands.
Oversees various operations of the roasting plant to create finished coffee products that meet or exceed the highest standards of quality set by Kauai Coffee Company and to meet production demands and schedules.
Works closely with Roast Plant Manager and Sales and Marketing Group, research and development contacts and organizations, and all departments to optimize production and quality to ensure delivery schedules are met.
Assist with ordering, receiving, warehousing and inventory of all outsourced packaging materials, dry goods and consumables.
Follows established guidelines, procedures, policies, practices and methods necessary to maximize coffee quality and participates in quality and assurance testing.
Works directly with Quality Assurance Technician and Roast Plant manager with successfully completing the annual food safety audit and bi-annual mock recall.
Ensures all roast plant equipment is maintained properly.
Maintains inventory and monitors quality of stored green coffee for the Roast Plant. Monitors quality of roasted coffee that is produced for the retail operation.
Input daily production totals into Great Plains system.
Improves processing equipment and system efficiencies by performing routine and non-routine calculations to verify all equipment and systems are operating within system and/or manufacturers specifications. Trouble-shoots equipment when needed.
Administers and complies with all Company Rules, Company Policies and Company/Union Agreements to ensure fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
Provides a safe working environment for all employees to minimize accidents and their related costs.
Qualifications/Skills/Knowledge Requirements:
Awareness of food grade requirement and regulations are paramount.
3-5 Years of supervisory/leadership experience with progressively responsible job functions. Previous coffee roasting or food production experience is preferred, but not required.
Demonstrates excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
Proficient user of computer, including use of Word, Excel and other applicable software.
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
Must be knowledgeable of and comply with all Federal, State, Local and Company safety, health and environmental regulations.
