Rock, Drilling, and Tools’ Technician is a liaison between the maintenance shop, warehouse, and pit, as well-rounded in a wide range of drilling equipment.

The RDT technician supports the RDT Supervisor in the safe coordination of drilling activities in open pit operations, ensures that blast hole drilling rigs have proper tooling and consumables to achieve production targets

As such, the incumbent of this position must be organized, disciplined and physically fit. The technician may face frequent physically challenging activities, namely carrying weights up to 15-20KG, operating a CME machine, and pushing pallets of trolley.

Job Responsibilities

Includes but not limited to:

Responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient operation of equipment operations.

Coordinates with RDT Supervisor to ensure that drill bits are taken off of drill machine at the appropriate time. The same bits must be sharpened correctly until the budgeted life is achieved.

Coordinates with the RDT Supervisor that all DTH hammers are being maintained, rotated and being operated efficiently. This includes scheduled rebuilding.

Coordinates with RDT Supervisor that all drill rods and subs are measured and handled according to procedure to ensure budgeted life.

Assists RDT Supervisor and Admin Assistant to ensure that all RDT tracking is documented

Inspects and monitors all drilling RDT consumables, work areas, and drill machines.

Education and Experience

Technical certification Mechanical or equivalent

3 years’ experience minimum in Drilling equipment in Mining operations

Strong Knowledge on drilling equipment’s

Experience with rotary, percussive, or DTH (Down-the-Hole) drilling tools .

Excellent teamwork and communication skills.

Be physically fit –Ability to lift to 25 kg
